Holy horchata wey
Lilly’s Tacos, 310 Chapala St., Santa Barbara, CA 93101
A true taco specialist, Lilly’s Tacos offers a wider variety of meat choices than most taquerias: Steamed (maciza, cabeza, cachete, lengua, labio/lip, ojo/eye), Grilled (asada, adobada, chicken, tripe). They also have a vegetarian option. Tacos are $1.60 each.
Order up front and wait for your number to be called. The tacos come unadorned so be sure to visit the chilled salsa bar to help yourself to three kinds of salsa, chopped onions, cilantro, radish, and limes.
The dining room is no frills with cheap rickety tables that they don’t clean too often, TVs and lots of people.
* Cabeza and cachete tacos: The meats were chopped up into small pieces and similar tasting. Both were tender and well spiced. Each taco comes on two small corn tortillas. I thought the salsas were good. The tacos weren’t too wet.
Closed on Tuesdays.

Puebla Tacos #3, 2057 N Los Robles Ave., Pasadena, CA 91104
How does Puebla Tacos have three locations? Maybe I ordered the wrong things but I certainly wouldn’t want to return. I guess all the elaborate décor was a bad sign. They have an elaborate murals and random objects outside of the restaurant.
Order upfront and they’ll bring you your food. The menu includes seafood dishes, salads, breakfast items, combination plates, burritos ($7.25), tortas, soups, nachos, taquitos, quesadillas, and menudo on the weekends. Prices are higher than most taquerias in Pasadena.
Meat choices: Pastor, pollo, carnitas, asada, lengua, birria, chicharron, tripas, chorizo, shrimp, fish
The tacos are $2.75 each and come unadorned so visit the salsa bar to add what you’d like (salsas, onion, cilantro, radishes, pickled veggies).
* Complimentary tortilla chips: Best thing about the meal, lightly salted, warm, extra thin, crispy
* Fish taco ($3.59): A larger taco, it came with two warm corn tortillas, a big piece of grilled fish (tilapia?), shredded cabbage, chopped tomatoes and a thick creamy dressing. The thick, sweet dressing drowned out the flavor of the mushy fish.
* Lengua taco ($2.75): The taco is larger than usual (probably twice the size) but there wasn’t much meat. The lengua was cut into big pieces. Some pieces were very fatty but overall the lengua was too chewy. It comes with two warm corn tortillas. The XXX salsa was very smoky and not that spicy.

1. I have been posting all the daily notes to tumbler and I have undated the last three days… On my days off someone should being doing this as well… Gerardo… you want to do the postings on my days off? ~M Mary- I will do this on my morning shifts as well. Thx. -G
2. It is important to know the specials in the morning so that we can prepare the boards and send txt info to Steve for Face book and such… The kitchen says to wait for Joey and that they don’t know what he wants them to do… The list says chili verde but not one of them in the kitchen know how to make it… We need to set up a better system for speacials in the kitchen. ~M
3. Tapped another Ballast Point Pale Ale ~M
4. Couldn’t get the Hibiscus beer to work. I will see if a rep can take a look at the lines tomorrow. –G
5. Joey explained the new salsa bar procedure to tonights bussers. This will have to be explained to all bussers. Going forward, bussers will take salsa bar items that are one fourth full to the prep ladies to put into to go containers to sell to To Go customers. They will then grab a new container of salsa(the smaller half gallon size metal containers) for the salsa bar and day dot it. All other items will just go out in new containers, with day dots, with new product. At closing, they will seran wrap the items and mark “Salsa Bar” on the seran wrap so we know where this item came from. Mary, I will explain this to you tomorrow also. –G
