@saltylilith said: its not just an add/adhd thing! one of my hs teachers noticed this with all her students and decided to teach us her method called catch every word where you just ignore the words you miss or write parts of words down. its frustrating at first but eventually with practice youre able to connect the thoughts with the few words you have especially if you can get key words such as “indust revo techno changes euro” and connect the thoughts after class and it helps you study
yes, ive heard of this! i was definitely encouraged to use shorthand when taking notes in high school, but i was never very good at that either, since i either spent too long trying to figure out how to succinctly shorten words, or i shortened them too much and couldnt understand them later on. its pretty tough, but maybe i should work at it more!
@plasticoctopus said: yeah definitely, i’m not like diagnosed with adhd but i Suspect i have it and while i haven’t started college yet and don’t really have experience with that kind of education i can say that all throughout high school and other classes i’ve always best retained info when i was just listening instead of worrying about looking like i’m paying attention and writing “notes” which always end up being like, two or three sentences that are completely indecipherable to me
GOD RIGHT? ID ALWAYS GET BORED/DISTRACTED IN THE MIDDLE OF TAKING NOTES ANYWAY SO IT BARELY MATTERED ASDFJOI
honestly it does sound to me like u have adhd too, and if ur interested in being medicated, i would definitely recommend getting diagnosed! it is honestly SO easy, and takes almost no time at all - i just had to fill out a paper that asked what sorts of symptoms i had, and my doctor took one look at it and was like “yep, you have add” LMAO
u can probably try to find a quick version online if u want to get a rudimentary version done! it was called the “vanderbilt” test i think, and it was pretty short. there were some weird questions on it about whether or not i had violent tendencies, but i think that the test might be a catch-all type of exam and those were probably for a different behavioral disorder. it shouldnt take u longer than 10-15 min to complete
@gepgep said: definitely relate, i have pretty major adhd and ive always learned really well from lectures and my notes were always the briefest of outlines, which often didnt matter because i didnt reread notes anyway
ME TOO!! i pretty much NEVER looked at notes, unless i was well and truly stumped, and even then it really didnt help much. ive pretty much adopted the mindset that, when it comes to tests, i either know it or i dont. if i know it, great! nothing to worry about. if i dont, oh well, thats a lost cause. i just write whatever the fuck comes to mind and worry about it later, but i always act under the apprehension that i bombed it so that i dont get my hopes up (and usually i am pleasantly surprised to see that i didnt fail LMAO)
