in the midst of all this samisa we are losing sambeck... we are losing them and no one seems to care. imagine you played hockey with your childhood best friend (and he played on your wing briefly) til you were 16 and went into the ohl... and he said you were an unbelievable player and you said he was a really really strong defenseman... and he was the best defenseman in the o but you knew him so well you outsmarted him on this amazing goal that everyone was asking about... and he said he let you have it because you're friends... and they told you he said that and your face lit up... and you said you wanted to do something flashy to impress him... and the articles about it said you "undressed" him... and in an interview he was asked who the toughest player to defend against was and he said you... and you were constantly asked about each other or mentioning each other... and you both got drafted in the first round to californian hockey teams... and when you were passing him to the stage he hit your leg with the biggest smile on his face... and he played his first nhl game against your team... and you dragged him away from a fight and play fought him... and you checked him against the boards but you were both smiling... and now it's all michael misa this michael misa that and they're calling him his best friend... and your strange complex relationship with him is being ignored... and you're 19... just a day in beckett sennecke's life

ok im gonna give you the abridged version for now but maybe down the line ill make an actual primer but there are a few other helpful posts if youre more interested! sambeck scholars forgive me if this isnt entirely accurate im missing a few major events so this is just like a very loose rundown.

basically they were childhood teammates who got split up but still think very highly of each other (see any of dickies interviews about players he doesnt like to defend against) who are doomed narratively to never play on the same team.

sam dickinson (sj) and beckett sennecke (ana) are both currently in their first nhl season. beckett is a right wing, dickie is a dman. they played juniors on opposing teams (london and oshawa). before that, they were on the same gthl team, the toronto marlies, where sam was a center (even before this sam actually was a backup goalie and played like one single period of hockey but that isnt important) on beck's line.

they both played in the 2024 chl kubota top prospects game and were selected for the 2024 wjhc team. beckett was cut from the team aw so sad. but its fine because in 2024 they were both drafted to the nhl and beckett went 3rd overall to anaheim shocking literally everybody. dickie went eleventh to san jose, anaheims rival team. they continued playing for their ohl teams and participated in dev camp + the golden state rookie faceoff in the 2025 preseason where they had a little fight on the ice. at this point there was a lot of speculation about if beckett would get sent back to osh because hes still somewhat underdeveloped, but after scoring his first nhl goal in his first nhl game and going on a point streak he seems to be adjusting just fine. hes currently 2nd place for rookie point leaders with 44 but leading goals with 18. i dont know as much about dickies start because im a ducks fan sorry but i do know he didnt get his first goal in his first game and it took him a little longer but also he plays d so like its alright
