It is entirely possible to respect animals and eat them at the same time. Industrial farming of any kind is a menace and a product of capitalist need for mass production, and SHOULD be ended, absolutely... but just because someone still consumes animal products does not make them a supporter of the horrors of industrial farming. Half the time, people don’t even know that’s what the animals go through in those situations. That’s why a lot of people switch to local farms when they can.
Not everyone has that option, however. Food deserts, food allergies, and money problems exist. Veganism is not a cheap diet choice everywhere in the world, and it’s not even the healthiest for everyone. Not everyone can take supplements, not everyone can just eat a fucking apple, and sometimes... milk and cheese is all some people have to survive.
So if you’re a militant vegan who thinks that no one anywhere should have an excuse to not be a vegan, I hope you develop an allergy for your favorite thing and get a goddamn news flash on how much of an asshole you are. Not only is that incredibly disrespectful to people with disabilities that make your lifestyle choice impossible for them, but you’re also being goddamn rude to indigenous peoples who still hold to their traditions when it’s all they have left.
Also, if you’re the kind of vegan who forces vegan diets on their carnivorous pets like cats or dogs, I hope your pets get taken away from you :)
I have nothing against veganism in general. Vegans who are perfectly aware about their lifestyle choices and that their life can’t be lived by everyone, are perfectly fine in my book. I’m just so tired of all these assholes around...
