A Step Towards Forgiveness

A Marble Hornets everyone lives AU, but everyone still goes through the same shit.

Inspired by a conversation with @sh1tl0rrd and they drew art of it too!!

"What do you want?"

He was almost surprised by the airy croak his voice had become. It felt like years since he last actually spoke aloud. With nobody around, why speak at all? Amy went to go live with her sister and of course the others wanted nothing to do with him, not that he blamed them at all. He wouldn't have stuck around either.

What did surprise him, though, was Jay Merrick. Never could he tell what Jay would do next, such as standing at his door with a box and a somewhat hopeful expression on his tired face.

Jay could tell Alex didn't mean his question to be bitter, but instead tired. Everything about the way Alex stood before him screamed overwhelming guilt. The way he held himself and leaned against the doorframe, the clothes he wore that looked like they hadn't been changed in at least a week, the angry red scarring around his throat that should have healed by now if the scratch lines were anything to go by.

He looked broken.

It sat on the table, small and definitely a cheaper cake. Chocolate, by the look of it and it was obvious that Jay had hit a speed bump on the way over. "Thanks for not hitting any vital organs : )" shakily scribbled across the top in thick green icing.

It hadn't taken long at all before Alex stepped aside to let Jay inside. He'd be a liar if he said he hadn't missed Jay's company. They had been friends, partners. Jay had cared so much for Alex's project and was almost as passionate as he was as script advisor. They weren't necessarily the closest, but Jay never gave up on how difficult the shooting became. He was resilient, that was for sure... Resilient through everything...

The laughter that emerged from his chest was breathy and almost disbelieving. It caught Jay off guard to hear it come from Alex. He really went out of his way to do this, to write on a cake something so ridiculous. It was undeniably something Jay would do. His laughter became louder and if Jay wasn't paying attention, he would have missed the sobs that Alex struggled to swallow through his laughter.

It was more than he deserved. It wasn't something that should have been done, ant yet it was. It was the olive branch. The offer to start repairing what had been shattered.

The cake was awful, but they both ate and spoke with remorse and guilt and hope. It was shitty cake, but it the offer it brought was sweet.
