parasocial relationships with famous people (any famous person, they don't even have to be anyone of real skill or note) have rotted brains and critical thinking and, most notably, critical analysis of fictional characters. interchanging the interaction with one for the other is what i imagine is the reason why people push for fictional characters' independence and autonomy because real people's independence and autonomy are threatened all the time within parasocial relationships so this concept of vigilant protection of these people are being conflated with the needless protection of fictional characters
media literacy is not necessarily dead despite my grumbling, but i also know that being literate and fluent in media and communications at this point also relies on being information literate, being digitally literate, and being values literate and that's a lot and few of those things are being supported, especially in conjunction with each other
