We are all a small imperfect infinite piece of sentient chaos.
I have a tendency to steal little pieces of people that I meet through mimicry. Little morsels of their souls to add to my own. I had a love of exercise and martial arts since I was a young lad, and as I got older, I grew a love of poetry. But as I met others, I began to mimic aspects of them that I admired.
At work, the superintendent is among the most knowledgeable people you will ever meet, and I aspire to learn and have the answer to everything the same way he always does. My direct supervisor is so relaxed, never letting anything stress him out, and I try to do the same.
I’ve tried to mimic aspects of other coworkers, as well. To read more than I ever have, that there is wisdom in being shallow, to always be willing to grow through people skills, to embrace knowledge of politics as a necessary component of wisdom, that a calm nature can get you through some of the most intense of moments.
Of course, my family has been the most that I have attempted to mimic. Perfect form of boxing, hard work, working smart, to be forgiving, to be grateful, to be loyal, to be loving.
I even mimicked horrible aspects of people before knowing any better. A childish attempt to be a bully the way that others had done to me, a judgmental zealot because that’s the way the elders would act, a drunk bastard because I saw it when I was young, an angry, sad fool because it’s the way I saw adults act.
I sometimes wonder if this is all I am. A futile amalgamation of superfluous mimicries. A pseudo soul, not having any identity to truly call my own. A hollow doll, full of empty thoughts and pyrrhic emotions.
Enlightenment Mimicry
A picture may be worth a thousand words but a single sentence can change your entire world.
And in the end, I realized that all I wanted was to be understood.
Existence is mostly nothing.
And in that split second, I realized that all of it was a lie.
Enlightenment is just another form of madness.
I think I'm just holding on to the memories.
