I assume we all agree that the narrative is strongly implying that Crowley was but a common angel (the 25 lazarii miracle, the high rank clearance, what he says to Gabriel about knowing how it feels, how he does not tell Aziraphale his name when they first meet during the galaxy creation scene, the fact he knows The Metatron -an angry and flame surrounded versione of The Metatron, Saraqael having worked side by side with him, and also maybe some too powerful miracles here and there like in S1 when he was able to froze time for himself, Aziraphale and Adam in a sort of Heavenly space in the middle of a Very Important Moment) ...so the point is which not common angel was he.

From my very personal point of view the main thing in favor of him being Lucifer is that I would love that sentence in S1 to be the opposite of what we thought it to be. I'm referrinf to: "I was just minding my business one day and then, oh lookie here, it's Lucifer and the guys"; the last part would therefore be not something Crowley said, but something that was addressed to him. Someone came there, took a look at him and went "ohh, it's Lucifer and the guys" and started to complaing about the food. I appreciate this kind of 'irrelevant subversion' of how you first pictured a told (and not yet shown) scene in your mind. Also it would be fun for Lucifer to be, in this universe, not the mind behind the rebellion but someone who was just minding his business and someone else saw as the right person to go to to give further resonance to some minor issues about the food.

But.

But from the same very personal point of view, I'd love for Crowley to be Raphael because I would love for the Great Raphael to be a fallen angel in this retelling of christian mythology. Lucifer is THE fallen angel, everyone knows he was the first to cast down the pearly gates; most christians associate him with Satan, call him the first sinner, consider him inherently baaad.

But Raphael? One of the greatest angels? One of the saints? To be one of the fallen?

Just. Lovely.

Also I recognize the story has an important hole here:

At least Lucifer was mentioned, also Hell has so far not had the same amount of screentime as Heaven has, so I don't see the absence of Lucifer (given that in this universe Satan≠Lucifer) as deliberate as the absense of Raphael.

Everyone is familiar with Gabriel, Michael and Raphael as they are familiar with Lucifer. Yet Raphael is never shown nor mentioned.

Everyone is familiar with Gabriel, Michael and Raphael, almost no one is familiar with Uriel and Saraqael and no one is familiar with hecking Sandalphon. Yet they chose not to use the famous trio Gabriel-Michael-Raphael to straightforward let the audience know 'this is Heaven's Small Council'. No, they get rid of Raphael like he was a barely known angel, like he was an angel no one knows the name of before reading about angeology, like he was a Sandalphon.

Listen, this is deliberate.

The absence of Raphael is deliberate.

And I would love for him to be the 'angel who fell because he was asking too many questions'.

I would love for him to be the powerful Supreme Archangel that was just minding his business when Lucifer and the boys reached out to.

May I add.

...even if Crowley is not Raphael, I'm sure Raphael would pop up somewhere else, because the narrative has strongly pointed in the direction of a fallen Great One.

Actually, I would really love it if they released Dark Sandalphone. Two reasons.

1.) I want Part 1/flashback sandalphone as an equippable skin. The simpler, bulkier armor design and more saturated colors gave him character. It was a good design, and the flashbacks in part 2 & part 3 always project a more life-like sandalphone than the ‘current’ one.

2.) To make up for his shitty, coffee-centric fates. Why would you staple a flanderizing gimmick onto an already rich character. Literally you could have just made his fates the gradual process of the crew’s attitude towards him going from ‘this fucker’ to ‘fine, he can stay’, as he proves that he’s willing to actually do stuff. Like chores. And clearing the deck of monsters, which is probably what 70% of the crew is doing at any given time.

That being said, what I would actually like is a mixture of the above, and Sandalphone reflecting on his emotions. He’s already emo, you may as well get the payoff. What I’m thinking is basically a three-arc fates.

The first part starts with the crew being distrustful of him and Sandy being a confused and confusing mix of “willing to play nice” like he is canonically and “I’d yeet danchou off a cliff again in a heartbeat”. Maybe some arguments over his methods. Sandy is a certified musclehead, so maybe overusing brute force and causing difficulties for the crew, even if he technically did as everyone asked. At the end of this arc (the initial fate episode that gives you a crystal), it is mentioned that the Grandcypher is going to be hunting a marauding primal beast.

I think part two of this arc would open with Sandy actually feeling disappointed he can’t seem to get along with the crew, since the structure of the Grandcypher combined with the general chaos and sense of motion (you’re always going places, fighting things, etc.) might be good for Sandy’s mental health, at least in the short term. I imagine eventually asks, like, Lyria or someone of a similarly forgiving mindset for advice. Either Lyria or Danchou: I would kill for the MC to get some of their own characterization out of this, maybe the option to be like “I’m still miffed about the cliff thing, but you’re on the crew now, so I will help you if you ask”.

Sandy takes this to heart, and over the course of the crew battling the Primal beast in arc 3 (the second skill unlock battle), everyone comes to appreciate the raw punch of Sandy’s battle prowess, and he learns to work within a team, eventually finding a tactical niche, or a ‘Purpose’ if you will.

Even at the end, most of the crew isn’t going to fully embrace him, but there will still be the sense that “we could get to the point one day. We can see that full, unconditional acceptance from where we are now. This was worth it, this is better, and we can keep going”. Because life doesn’t stop, it keeps evolving.

Uriel

♥ When Michael was missing, he was also in search of where Michael could have gone, worrying about what may have happened to him. He genuinely cares for Michael despite the past. He would look for Michael, but unexpectedly, he sees Metatron also looking for the same angel.

♥ First glance, he didn’t know know how to feel about Metatron trying to look for Michael, when Metatron was one of the people who wanted to defy him in the first place. He gets rather surprised than anything else.

♥ Realizing how desperate Metatron looked while he was searching for Michael, Uriel couldn’t help but feel pity because there is a large chance that they won’t be able to see Michael ever again, and he starts to think that maybe Metatron may have actually cared for the angel.

Sandalphone

♥ For him, it was obvious that Metatron would react like this, especially that he’s one of the closer angels to him. He only follows Metatron’s orders and tries to look for him together with Metatron. He doesn’t know how else to help him.

♥ Feels pretty sad about Metatron. He knows that he’s normally an angel who loves poking fun at others or maybe be a tease to them, but him seeming that dedicated to look for one single angel- it looked pretty sad to Sandalphone, but he would have never said that out loud.

♥ He thinks that Metatron may have some feelings for Michael, but he wouldn’t have asked about it. Metatron seemed so happy every time he was with the other angel, but now he’s in search of him- his personality seemed that it has had a change.
