When, in 1835, Mexican President Santa Anna revoked the 1824 Constitution, Texas went into rebellion, declaring its independence the following year. Days 13 & 14 - Idyllwild and Mt. San Jacinto

Day 13 was a zero day in Idyllwild. Gaelen and Ian did errands in town getting resupplied and spent the rest of their time hanging out with their new trail angel friends. Being first time trail angels there were a lot of interesting questions about the travel and the planning involved.

The next day Ian and Gaelen got a ride back to the Devil's Slide trailhead around 7 am. The next 8 miles was a steep climb up Devil's Slide, then onto a detour trail to the peak of Mt. San Jacinto at 10,834 feet. The snow wasn't too slippery and only became consistent about 2 miles from the summit. Descending down the mountain's other side via Deer Creek Trail involved some bushwacking to keep track of the trail through the snow before camping right before our first river crossing (N. Fork San Jacinto River) at 9200 ft. The altitude was definitely noticable.

Love and blessings to Idyllwild, Mountain Center, and Anza today. These exquisite retreats in the San Jacinto range are home to some of the lovliest people you could ever meet. My heart breaks with them. Their world was set on fire by an arsonist last night. He's been caught, but many homes have been lost. Much forest has burned. Surely animals have died.
