LUX PERPETUA WE ARE SO FUCKING BACK. szarlej is back samson is back urban horn is back reynevan getting Injured and avenging his brother is back i thot for solid 15 pages that urban horn is straight up gay now sapkowski's homophobia is back. and also reynevan haircolor reveal (he is blonde) (it was obvious)
finally finished hussite trilogy part 2, warriors of god and god it was. significantly less fun than narrenturm bc of the sheer amounts of time that reynevan got fucking kidnapped escapes got re-kidnapped and escaped etc etc overall Much more warfare when it obviously should've had Much more of the monastery that Jutta went to it was by far the most interesting to me part of the book and we blew it on being the setting that Reynevan gets his dick wet again and again LMFAO that being said. reynevans character development was actually really cool i assume a lot of it will be undone in book #3 as he turns into a nihilist. the ending was awesome even tho on the last page I was actively Rolling my Eyes KFHSKCHDKFH overall i give it like. 2.5/5 would be a 4 if Szarlej was here more to call that stupid fuck a stupid fuck bc it felt like i saw him like 3 times in the whole book. szarlej i miss u
noooooo the tower of fools translation took away one of my favorite little moments :( :( :( :(
here :( the water pole, speaking to reynevan wasn't telling him to say a tongue twister, but a shibboleth: instead of "she sells seashells on the seashore" he orders him to say "soczewica, koło, miele, młyn" (lit. lentil, wheel, grinds, mill) which is NOT a tongue twister!!!! that was a legitimate shibboleth used by poles in 14th century after one uprising or another, to identify and kill germans and german-speakers.
what Reynevan says back to him, is "stół z powyłamywanymi nogami" (lit. table with the legs broken off), which is. just a tongue twister. because he's obnoxious and wants to prove to a random polish guy he met that he speaks polish better than him LMFAO
having this just being two tongue twisters (unless "she sells seashells by the seashore" is also a shibboleth? to my knowledge it's not) takes a lot from this imo :( instead of "say this correctly or im leaving you here to die" it gets this "you must answer my riddles three" vibe. :(
BTW finished narreturm/tower of fools by sapkowski (will 100% make a long post w all my thots) BUT. if you're a KCD fan and don't mind popping up google every few chapters (or are intimately familiar with the history & geography of Lower Silesia) this is such a fun book. genuinely laughed out loud reading it. it hit that kcd sweetspot perfectly would recommend if you finished kcd and are hungry for more similar things
sapkowski describing a male character: he was ugly and had a lot of muscles. big nose
sapkowski describing a female character: she breasted boobily down to the titty tavern and she smelled beautiful among this swamp where she lives
Well. Scharley anecdotally dropping in how the common past time at the monastery was tupping one Brother Barnaby...Sir we've only just met you.
i think sapkowski is extremely based for naming a character in the hussite trilogy Kyrie Eleison. absolutely insane name, no notes
