where did the desi harry potter thing even come from lmao (also why’s it bad? i thought it was just harmless representation, if badly executed)

I don't really know when it started, but it took off around the same time as Black Hermione fanart and depictions became popular. I have however read a few posts made by desi tumblrs which got considerable praise for pushing the brown harry agenda.

many people are going to hate me for this, but I just think it's a headcanon that's very narrow and a bit of a reach and half. aside the fact that he is the cherished saviour of the British wizarding world in the 90s, he is the son of a man who actively bullied and physically assaulted a white student during his schooltime career and the implications of brown James consistently asking out white Lily until she agrees to go on a date with him is extremely uncomfortable, sue me marauders stans (not to mention how it would be white Lily's love that saves her son at the end). There are also shit load of implications regarding his treatment of cho and parvati, we really don't have time to unpack all of that.

I'm not going to be a funsponge, I myself have made and reblogged some desi harry edits but a person recently talked (they asked not to reblog so I wouldn't link it) about how the aesthetics of Harry being the chosen one is desi only insofar upper class Hindus are concerned and considering a) the subpar rep of Indians on this site and b) d*ath (metaphorical) of jkr and reclaiming hp being A Concept Most Irritating™ idk I just think he is a mediocre white guy. But people are free to headcanon, I'm not going to gaslight gatekeep girlboss hp stans.

I guess the new 52 did serve one if its functions for you then! (I know it was supposed to get more people into comics or be easier to access. it was controversial with a lot of people). which comics did you start with in new52?

if you wouldn't mind, could you say where exactly jo hurt amy's chances at social connections? not disagreeing with you lol but it's been a long time since i read the book and i can't remember jo doing something like that. i do agree with you on the differences in how jo and amy's artistic endeavours are perceived though. amy's always been my favourite march sister, and it's annoying to see so many little women fans act like she's the villain in the story because she broke up laurie and jo. she didn't even do that, jo rejected laurie and there were so many instances of amy and laurie having a romantic connection even before that, so saying that amy and laurie's relationship was laurie "settling" for amy just leaves a bad taste lol

I haven't yet. it's an adaptation of kabuliwala I believe? I find the timeline change very intriguing, that was certainly a directorial step that I would like to study further in light of the original plot.

In this context let me do a quick promo for the 1957 bengali adaptation of the same story, Kabuliwala, directed by Tapan Sinha; it's one of my mother's favourite films and certainly a whole tear-jerker but also sooo heartwarming.
