he TRIED to! the chevalier de rohan-chabot made fun of his name and then voltaire made fun of him back so de rohan paid some guys to beat the shit out of voltaire and then he challenged de rohan to a duel but de rohan was so rich he had voltaire sentenced to prison and then voltaire was like hey how about instead of prison you just send me to england for a bit and they were like okay! sounds fair!

hh should i listen to this podcast i keep being adjacent to it and following the people on twitter

i mean personally i’d say definitely, because i love it, and it’s one of my favorite podcasts. also they just started a new campaign last month which only has four episodes so far, if the hundred odd star wars episodes are a bit much! (also there’s evil campaign which only has 13 episodes and is mostly standalone, if you want star wars without the huge episode count, and i love the terrible terrible evil kids too)

(i haven’t actually listened to the new campaign episodes yet, because i’m still wallowing in “what do you MEAN the sw stuff is over” and relistening to those, but it’s mostly the same people plus pirates so i’m sure it’ll be excellent)

i tend to just start my games in media res with some handwavey "youve done a job together before" type thing? then i have the players write bonds that determine how their characters feel about each other - i find that establishing history and relationships between them helps encourage them to rp w each other more

ohhh that’s a cool idea?? I’ll have to try that at some point, probably with players that are already friends bc that makes life easier.

a good and relaxing podcast which i will never stop recommending to people is the penumbra podcast, its an audio drama and the main story is this really great queer sci fi noir thing about a private eye on mars (hes bi & nb and has depression and i would die for him) the creators are lgbt and theyre just. rays of sunshine tbh anyways i saw someone was recommending podcasts and thought id chime in bc im love the penumbra

oh!! i’ve actually seen a lot of good stuff about that (some well trusted mutuals really love it) and i’ve been meaning to get into it and am actually subscribed already i’ve just been nervous to start

for the anon who was having trouble sleeping: i also have really bad insomnia bc i can't get my brain to shut up so what i do is get ready for bed and turn the lights off and listen to podcasts on low-ish volume - usually i've fallen asleep within an hour
