I sometimes wish that I was more ‘in’ fandom like I used to be with Glee, where I had a posse and wrote fic and was pretty much just... constantly around yelling at people and being yelled at and yelling about everything. Lots of yelling. It was Glee fandom after all. 

But as much as I like things (I often REALLY LIKE things) nothing has really... enflamed me, reached out and yanked my heart out of it’s chest and demanded that I interact with it the way Glee did. I got into Glee fandom when I was traveling for a year with my family, half a world and many hours away from anyone else I knew in real life. As is the by now old story, I didn’t have friends in the physical world, so I developed friendships in the online world. This kept going even after I came back from traveling, when I went to college. But after Glee, I drifted away from directly interacting with fandom. I still do sometimes, such as when I leaped into @wellntruly DS9′s fandom. But it’s no where to the level I was before, and I don’t often do things like that anymore. Similarly to how after college, I drifted away from people there. I still talk to some, I still sometimes do alumni things, but it’s not my life anymore. It’s not that it wasn’t important, and that I didn’t love so many parts and people from it. But it was a part of my life that is over now, even as I still keep an eye on them sometimes.

I haven’t even really watched Glee since it stopped. It was a special, perfect thing for me at that time. There’s a part of me that’s afraid that it won’t hold up if I watch it again, that I won’t like it anymore. That I won’t watch it and have it grab my whole heart in it’s perfectly imperfect hands.

I’m not sure what this is. I just, for some weird reason, decided to go back through my rainbowrites tag to see old conversations and remembered all over again how much Glee fandom meant to me. How those friendships buoyed me when I was down, intrigued and inspired me, and over all developed me as a person. I learned so much. About how to analyze shows and also how to just lean back and let the story enchant you motherfucker. About lives and situations and perspectives other than my own. About history and feminism and queerness and disability. About writing and editing and characters and stories. About how to think. About me. I

I guess this is a bit of a wistful love letter to the person I was then, and the show and fandom that meant so much to me. I’m not that person anymore, but I wouldn’t be the person I am NOW without them. I sometimes wish I was still that person, still had that drive and connection to fandom. But overall I like being a bit more of a lurker now, content to just enjoy things without saying too much about them. Maybe that will change. Maybe it won’t. But for now, I like who I am, both in the internet and physical world. And part of who I am now is all the people who helped make me along the way. So....

Hmm….so many of my favorite characters would be terrible to know in real life. I’m gonna say Shuri, a funky lil lesbian

A - Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don’t have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed.

1) I’ve been in charles/erik hell for like a year. I understand that in the movies it’s complete cliched slash bait and in the comics charles xavier is a fucking terrible person but nonetheless, here we are….

2) I just caught up on The Wicked + The Divine, and my Cass/Laura shipping has been reactivated. I understand that it would be a bad idea right now for many reasons but they’re GOOD

3) I’m constantly on about this but the Kitty Pryde + Magneto friendship is my fucking favorite blease marvel bring this back

G - Have you ever had an OTP? If so, do you remember your first one? Who was in it?

*clenches fist* yeah (if we understand “OTP” to mean “ship I really like and prefer over all others for these characters,” not “the only ship I like”)…….unfortunately I think my first otp would have to be p*terick from bandom….I was 12 and did not understand anything,

N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).

For X-Men fandom, which I guess is my main right now:

1) It would be nice if more people did not reproduce racism from canon and instead did critical thinking……..

2) Ensemble fic pls!! Half the fun of x men is having a wacky ensemble famiily

3) Just personally, I would be super interested in more portrayals of magneto as gender non-conforming. I know that generally people, including me, write/draw him as very masculine, but imo there’s a lot there in terms of flamboyance and vintage gay vibes to draw from….

E - Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom? If so, what?

GOD, people I don’t even know have declared my Samot/Magneto fic to be the weirdest one in Friends at the Table fandom…I can and will keep supporting crossover magneto ships

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?

Ahahaha I KNEW somebody I knew would be with me there.  (It’s a good show!  It was very very important to me when I was 14!  I still have feels!  And also head-AU plots but that’s just inevitable by now.)

The fandom is definitely...different than it was in, say, 2003.  (Which holy shit was fifteen years ago now, that is so long.)  But I mean, in 2003 it was all fanfiction.net and mediaminer and individual websites with ill-advised graphical choices, and fifteen million stories about Ken taking Daisuke prisoner leading to rapey sexy torture times, so.  It’s not like that’s any less scary than the endless explicit furry porn.

(Okay when I say it like that, everything sounds awful forever.  FANDOM IN GENERAL IS WEIRD, YO.  I’ll just be over here by myself re-watching the Eight Child arc for the first time in ten years and bracing myself for so many incipient feels.)

ENCHANTED MOTORBIKE? HELL YES

Right??? It is small and speedy and the parts that would have paint or be made of colored plastic are white because that’s that the lego bike was it is probably a decommissioned moto-cop bike. She gave it a magical buffer zone for zipping between cars in traffic (think those buoys to keep boats from clacking against docks), probably some kind of “don’t let me fall off” spell, more fuel efficiency or just straight up running off bottled magic instead of regular fuel if need be, and I think sometimes she could activate something to make it fly.

Previously she flew (when needed) by grabbing the nearest garbage can lid and temporarily enchanting it, this is much cooler.

I’m not gonna lie; one of my co-workers has a theory that the store we work at is cursed, and for a moment, I kinda felt it.

(On the other hand, I mean I’ve been driving with a nail in my tire for fuck knows how long, and it just sat there quietly, not even leaking air, so.  Could’ve been worse.  Could’ve been so much worse.)
