The last thing you remembered was falling off your ikran and falling right into the ocean. An RDA helicopter has followed you and shot at you as you flew with your ikran. While you sank into the water, you hoped that your ikran was at least safe. Then everything went black. This was it, you were going to die.
But hour later, you woke up. With a slight headache and pain all over your back. The fall was kind of hard. You touched the rough surface that you laid in. It was hard and what felt like rough skin. Scarred skin. You sat up and looked around. You were in the middle of nowhere. Expect, on a creature's back. It was alive due to the creature letting out air from its nostrils. Startling you a bit. You also noticed how they were covered in many metal objects. That made your heart sink.
"What did they do to you?" You asked to yourself, looking around. This had the RDA written all over it. You knew they killed anything precious just to make profit. Then you moved off from their back and slide into the water. Sitting on their fin. You then noticed the missing eyes. They were blind. That made you feel some type of way. Why would they do such a thing. Then you realized what it was. A tulkun, you've read about them in your old text books. How they were like family to the Metkayina and had a bond with them.
The creature then let out a small clicking. "I may not understand you or you may not understand me. But, you saved my life. Thank you." You told them, gently petting their brow. Then you thought of something. You used your finger to spell out on their skin 'Thank you'. Hoping they'd understand. She let out a squeal. "If only I can understand you." You told them, looking around. You hoped that your Ikran would be found. But seeing that you were in the middle of nowhere, you didn't know if she'd comeback.
You sighed, not only were you in the middle of the ocean, but your communication device was broken. Due to it being wet. You hoped that help would arrive soon or later. You looked back at the creature. "Since you saved my life, it's only fair that I help you." You told the creature.
So, you began to remove the sharpen objects off them. They were really deep into their skin. Almost as if they had fussed. You'd apologize to them every time you pulled anything harshly. They barely flinched but you did hear the small painful cry. Some wounds you rubbed some healing paste given to you by Ri'nela. Hoping it would help the tulkun. It took you most of the day to get them off, but you managed to remove all of them.
You were back on sitting on their fin, rubbing whatever was remaining of the paste. "I don't know much about sea creatures. But hopefully this helps" You told them, as you continued to rub the very little left. They let out a small squeal and a click. You assumed it was some kind of thank you or just a gratitude gesture. "Are you all alone?" You asked them. They let a small sad click. "I see." You said, sadly. No creature is ever alone. You've seen them in groups or with a companion. You wondered why they were alone. Looking up, you wondered when they'd arrive. By the looks of it, it was not going to be any time soon. "What do you do for fun around here?" You asked the creature.
The tulkun had you hold onto their fin, as they swam around the sea. Despite them not having vision, they knew the sea well. You looked around, seeing the many creatures and environment. It was peaceful, just like the first time you left the TAP facility. Everything was beautiful, from the fish, the shells, everything the sea had to offer. It almost felt like you were in the air again, like the first time you flew your ikran.
After a while of swimming, you were back to sitting on her fin. It was already night. You were tired, hungry despite having a raw fish earlier, you were starving and somewhat cold. But the Tulkun was keeping you warm. "I had a sister, her name was Aha'ri, she was very brave and stubborn." You told the Tulkun. "She used to sing me to sleep. A song that my mother once sang. I could barely remember the words. I can only hum them from what I know." You explained to the tulkun. Who let out a sad moan. "I miss them, everyday. I had my mother's songcord at some point, but it was taken from me." You told them.
The tulkun then let out a small squeal, then moved slightly upwards. Confusing you a bit. "What is it?" You asked them, they did the gesture again, slightly opening their mouth. "You're hungry? You ate a whole school of fish." You teased them. But they continued to move upwards and widening their mouth. Then nudged at you with their body. You still couldn't completely understand. "I don't understand, are you in pain? Does your mouth hurt? Do you need me to go in there?" You asked them. They let out a loud click.
You raised your nonexistent brow. "You want me to go in your mouth?" You asked again, they nudged at you and clicked. Not sure what they wanted from you, but you agreed into going into their mouth. You then went underwater, so did they. You swam around them. As they opened their mouth wide for you. Slowly, you swan right inside their mouth, before you could react she closed it. Quickly you panicked, thinking they're about to eat you. Expect, they didn't, they didn't swallow or nothing.
Then you noticed how their bioluminescence began to glow. They were pretty to look at. They were lined in a beautiful pattern. It was like looking at the stars, looking back, you noticed a yellow looking leaf at the back of their throat. Expect, it wasn't a leaf, it looked like a kuru. With many tendrils, you grabbed your kuru and let the tendrils interwind with one another. Committing tsaheylu. You felt a pull light symptom and your pupils dilated. Closing your eyes to see.
It was almost as if you were the tulkun yourself. They were a girl, by the name of 'Ta'nok'. They were in what seemed to be a clan. A clan of tulkun. They seemed happy, but that was quickly interrupted by the RDA. They were poachers. You watched through her eyes how they killed and murdered the tulkun, how Ta'nok fought back in order to survive. You jolted and flinched, as if you felt her pain of getting attacked. It felt, both physically and mentally. It was horrible, having to witness them getting poached. They were none of them left, expect for her. No wonder she was alone, her clan was gone. Only survivor, the only blind witness. It hurt, it hurt a lot.
Not only did you witness the end of her clan. She also witnessed yours. How you were barely two years old, and your mother sang the song you often hummed to. Your last interaction with her, how she dangled her songcord to you. Making you laugh and attempt to grab it. It was cut short by shouting and screams of terror. She witness how your mother used her body to cover you and your sister Aha'ri, to protect you both. But she was killed in the process of doing so. It hurt.
When the memory was over, you detached your kuru from hers. Then swam out of her mouth. When you broke out from the water, you gasped. Taking a deep breathe, not noticing the tears that had build up in your eyes. You swam over and hugged her, tightly. "I'm sorry." That's all you could say. Pressing your lips onto her skin. "I'm sorry." You whispered only for her to hear. To understand. She let out a small sad moan. You stayed like that for a while hugging her, trying to ease each other's pain. It hurt, it hurt having to remember what happened. To the both of you.
You ended up falling asleep, and so did she. As soon as the sun hit your face, you woke up. Covering your eyes with your palm. Stretching your limbs and let out a small yawn. Ta'nok let out a small click to get your attention. "Have you been up the whole time?" You asked her, making her moan. You smiled, petting her head affectionately.
Then you heard something, or someone from the distance. Looking up, you saw an Ikran. Not just any ikran, but So'lek's ikran. He came. As soon as you saw him getting closer, you got on top of Ta'nok's back and waved your arms, yipping and shouted at him to get his attention. He quickly spotted you, he landed his ikran on a near by rock as soon as the ikran touched the rock. So'lek jump off and ran up to you. Luckily, Ta'nok had moved towards the rock. So'lek, engulfed you into a tight hug. You hugged him, burying your nose into his chest. Taking in the scent you missed. "I'm so happy to see you." You told him, as you continued to hug him, tightly.
So'lek pulled away and checked you up. Placing his hand on your cheeks to check for any bruises or cuts, then looked around your shoulders, arms, and hands. He finally stopped and looked right at you again. "I thought something happened to you. When your ikran went to my camp and you weren't with her. I thought the worst happened." He said, running out of breathe, he was worried sick. "I'm okay. Thanks to Ta'nok. She saved me." You told him, gesturing to the tulkun. Who let out a small squeal. So'lek was shocked, seeing the scarred Tulkun before him. Never in his life did he think he'd ever see them. Or at least one them. "Thank you." He told Ta'nok, gently caressing her brow. "Thank you." He said, hoping she'd understand him. Ta'nok moaned and click in response.
"We must head back, the others are worried sick." He said. Trying to guide you to his ikran you stopped. "Can I say goodbye first?" You asked him, he looked at you then at Ta'nok, then back at you. "Alright, but make it quick." So'lek said, then went to get on his ikran. You went over to Ta'nok, getting on your knees. "Thank you again, for saving me. If it weren't for you. I probably wouldn't be here now." You told her. She moaned and tapped her fins against the water. You smiled sadly. "I have to go now, but I promise you. You'll see me again. I'll come back as soon as I can." You told her, she let out a small sad but understanding squeal. You gave her one final pet on the brow. As much as you wanted to stay, you had to go.
You walked towards So'lek, getting on his ikran, right behind him. Properly positioning yourself. He helped you, by moving your thigh slightly and having you wrap your arms around his waist. Then his ikran took off into the air. As you flew up, you looked down, still seeing Ta'nok. Who was swimming towards where you were leaving. Almost as if you were sensing her follow your movements. You could hear her moan and squeal, as if she was saying goodbye to you too. But you'd be seeing her again, soon.
