Wonderful Precure Episode 47 Review - The Beginning Of The Endgame
I wasn’t aware that there had been a one-week break, but it does make sense given that it was the end of the year. Now that the holidays are over, Wonderful Precure has returned, but it was a bit overshadowed by the news of the new Precure show, You and Idol Precure (Kimi to Precure) that will air on February 2—you know I’ll definitely watch it! This means that there are three more episodes of Wonderful left.
The first half of the episode was basically the calm before the storm. It’s also an update to see what’s going on with some of the supporting cast and what they’re doing for the New Year. Ohkuma is at the farm as she’s helping out in preparing for one of the cows’ birth. Karasuma is helping out at her family’s shrine. Kanie and Saruwatari are bickering—I’m convinced these two will hook up in the future. Otsuru, Okame and Oshika are handing out amazuke and still seem in a good mood even after losing Fuku. Takayuki came home for the holidays and everyone in Animal Town knows him as they want him to take their pets’ picture; the part where he was rolling was hilarious. Mey Mey is spending time with Iroha’s parents and eating mochi soup. It’s nice that everyone has something to do for the holidays.
You know endgame is happening when the sky turns a dark color—that’s the staple for every final boss setting. I find it funny how this episode went from wholesome to serious real quickly. It’s as if the writers were like “Well, you got your fun; have fun with the final boss” and doesn’t elaborate any further.
I do like that Zakuro is starting to waver after seeing the beauty of the Christmas tree in the previous episode. I think that if she has time to admire beautiful things like sparkles and a rising sun, it doesn’t mean she’s all that bad. In fact, she’s not bad at all. She’s just conflicted to the point that she even told Gaou that his revenge won’t bring back the other wolves. Despite Gaou’s insistence on getting revenge, Zakuro still obeys his orders. It seems that Zakuro is forming a free will of her own, but she still doesn’t know how to use it. Hopefully, the cat duo will get to her. She definitely doesn’t want bad things to happen to Gaou.
Speaking of Gaou, I have this extremely weird theory. What if Gaou isn’t actually a wolf but a possessed version of Subaru? Like, Gaou is the only wolf standing on two legs and doesn’t have a human form compared to Zakuro and Torame. We still don’t have a full answer of how the dark powers came to be—watch it be some sort of supernatural, otherworldly force that possessed Subaru to get revenge for the loss of Gaou and his wolf friends. I just hope the next episode will detail it.
Anyways, I can’t wait to see what will happen now that things have escalated into the final battle. When will Gaou finally be free from his revenge? What are your thoughts on this episode?
In the original shonen manga, this guy became a… Gorilla, for some reason. Which, considering he was one of the only named darker-skinned characters, uh… was not particularly okay for more than just logic reasons. Aside from the apparent racism of the creator, it never made sense for creatures made from things that weren't carnivorous were somehow now carnivorous creatures. Gorillas are neither obligate meat-eaters, nor are they particularly aggressive even for herbivores. So, in this mangling of the canon, he's now an Ussuri Brown Bear Homunculus. Still a great big dude!
Shit I am currently dealing with that idk how to deal with
I'm depressed nearly 24/7 on some level, I wanna be a good partner for my bf but I often can't work up the energy to help or talk to him, I haven't talked to my bf in either 2-3 days and I'm worried smth is wrong (anxiety talking), my best friend of 7+ years has a bday party tomorrow for a bday he has today and I'm trying to work up the mental energy to explain to him that a significant amount of what he does and how he talks makes me uncomfortable, I'm struggling with the fact that I seem to lack a tremendous amount of willpower especially in situations where I need it, I'm afraid of the unknown(yes that's common but that doesn't mean it's easy or that I should dismiss it). my life is falling apart at the seams and I'm almost an instant away from giving up. Aside from a few of the people and maybe the one or two things I still enjoy, idk what keeps me going other than the fear of dying or hurting myself physically. This is probably the one instance I'd consider my sensory issues to be anything other than a major inconvenience. It's almost a blessing in fact. Cuz without it, I might be dead right now. Also this isn't a cry for help in the slightest. I don't want any comments on this. No messages, no likes, certainly no reblogs. If it sets anyone's mind at ease, I'm writing this a couple hrs before meeting with my therapist who I plan on sharing this with so I'm just screaming my problems at a screen. Honestly there are a few other things we need out of the way first so we might not get to it today but rest assured, it's getting taken care of... Hopefully.
I love Mayu-focused episodes a lot. Maybe a part of it is due to how much I relate to her in terms of shyness and awkwardness, but another factor is that she went through the most character development. Just look at Mayu in the beginning to now. She certainly has become a more assertive girl with how she decided to teach her friends how to knit a scarf.
Seeing the characters try and knit made me think back on my childhood where I tried to learn how to knit. I can do it a little bit, but I’m better at crocheting than I am with knitting. Watching this episode sort of makes me want to try knitting and crocheting again. I also like that Saruwatari is also in the knitting class, showing off that boys and girls are allowed to knit. I like interesting details like Kanie messing up the garter and wanting to cut it before being stopped by Mayu, Yuki’s cat instincts making her catch the yarn that Komugi rolled towards her, and Iroha wanting to make a scarf for Satoru which makes Mayu gush.
I also found the part with Mayu and Mey Mey super cute! Mey Mey’s a sheep, so he makes a lot of yarn and found a kindred spirit in Mayu who also enjoys crafting. I saw some people in social media finding it a bit terrifying that Mey Mey is into yarn crafting as wool comes out of him, but it’s actually not that scary. It’s like making a wig out of cut hair. Also, wool can be a bit bothersome to sheep if unshaved, so it’s like a beneficial relationship.
Fortunately, this episode is also plot-relevant because the B-plot is Satoru and Niko trying to transcribe the worn letters and figuring out that the wolf Subaru mentioned in his diary was Gaou. This means that Gaou used to care for humans, but what caused his change is still unknown. However, while the Precures mainly sees Gaou’s actions as terrible, Zakuro thinks otherwise. She believes what Gaou is doing is good and rejects Mayu’s offer of friendship. However, I do feel like she might come around.
There are still a lot of mysteries revolving around Gaou. I wonder when the final battle will transpire because the lore reveal is going at a snail’s pace. Will there be more lore next episode? What do you think?
