For the past couple of weeks I've been on a business trip to the Livermore, California area where finally after some rain, the hills are rolling green except for where the vineyards lay, or where the fog hangs thick. The look of the turbine towers poking out above the fog caught my attention especially on this day. This pic doesn't really do it justice as to how impressive it looked, but it does show you what it looked like. . Nov 2021 . Fall pics continue. I loved the brilliance of the yellow maple leaves with the dark blue. It seems so perfect it could almost be an advertisement for the vehicle. I had parked on the street almost opposite of this scene when I went to a park to take pictures - some of which I've already shared. As I went back to my car I saw this and of course had to stop and take another shot. I'm glad we can enjoy bits of nature even in the city. I guess that's why we have parks and yards. We all have a need for at least a bit of nature in our lives. I went back to this same park about a week later when the weather was just slightly better but by then the leaves on this tree were almost totally gone. Some times you just have to be in (or put yourself in) the right place at the right time. . Oct 2021 . Sometimes the pictures just don't do the reality justice. I happened to walk out of a store one previous autumn just in time to see this vision unfolding. So like several other people, I pulled out my cell phone and started shooting pictures. Too bad the parking lot doesn't make for a fabulous lower image, but at least the trees in full fall array with golden hour shining bright were magnificent. It's always interesting to see how each year shows the colors somewhat differently. At least around here, some years are just more colorful than others. Often it's a matter of the storms that come and go at this time of year. How fast they blow the leaves off the tree, how fast it gets cold, not to mention when the clouds clear to let the sunshine fall. Many of you would say, "Of course. Isn't that obvious?" But in reality, I have only learned it over the past few years living in this climate. Other places are much more monotonous when it comes to nature's colors. . Oct 2017 . The castle gate. How many fairy tales or mythical stories have at least one scene involving the castle gate? Well, this is it. The gate to Schloss Neuschwanstein (Castle) in Bavaria, Germany. his castle is more about beautiful architecture than a defensible fortress with a strong gate, but it has the gate all the same. No moat, but it has a gate. I've mentioned in other posts that I guess I like the symmetry and pattern of the repetitions. Maybe that's what caught my eye. All the same, I figure this is at least a unique perspective to this castle. Especially since you end up being around the gate area for quite a while if you're waiting for your short tour of the inside. . Oct 2018 . They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder and therefore I would say art appreciation is in the eye of the beholder. I used to not care for the more abstract art, but as the years go by I can appreciate it as well. Such as the work of Northwest native Dale Chihuly. Don't get me wrong, I like various other forms of art as well. This work is out in the open by the walkway leading to the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington. There are various other pieces on public display as well. To me it's captivating. Unique. I took this picture mostly because of a similar one that one of my daughters took years before. It's October and in much of the USA thoughts of harvest time celebrations and Halloween abound. And many enjoy Pumpkin Spice everything. I'm glad to share this beautiful sunset from last night. At least this time of year the clouds are more broken up so the sun gets to shine on them and brighten our evening. Soon enough the clouds will be solid, but for now we can enjoy. This is actually the tail end of this sunset when I finally remembered to do something different like get this reflection shot. I wish it were a lake or a pond but when I don't have such in my back yard I had to remember a trick I picked up recently thanks to my photographer daughter. What is this reflection from? Not a photoshop fake. It's the top of our car. Since I shot this with my DSLR, a cell phone might have also worked. 20 years. Many changes seem slow and minor as we live day to day over the course of 20 years. And some changes seem dramatic. And some things contain both within the them. What was built over time was gone in a moment. And then another was built over years to rise again. We should remember. We should remember the loss. We remember the victims - both those we lost and those that remained. We remember the sacrifices, the heroes, and those that just did what they needed to do through it all. But while we remember, I want to also remember to learn from history. The what happened and whys. I want to be proud of what we have done since and where we will yet go. We remember, but we look forward. I want to look forward to growing together such that events like 9/11 eventually only exist when we remember them. I want to understand and respect each other such that we come together to help each other rather than to destroy. I'm too much of a realist to think this will ever happen, but I can still hope, pray, and do what I can to make it come true. To be honest, I'm sharing this picture because I don't have one more fitting of the 9/11 memorial. I don't have one that is "super cool". And as I looked through my pics, I realized I didn't want today to be about my photography. I realized that I wanted it to be more about the hope of the future than just remembering the past - even though I for one will never forget.
