Google Doodle-Research

Monty Python had a long run on television. There's tons of sketches, but only a few have really rooted themselves into popular culture. Without a doubt The Ministry of Silly Walks exemplifies this, and how fortunate that it stars John Cleese!

But there are other options too. The culmination of Monty Python shenanigans in Monty Python and the Holy Grail the memorable Tim the Enchanter is also played by a magically inclined John Cleese. One of these roles should be suitable for a google doodle. Concept sketches will reveal more.

The Saturn 1 rocket was the first of a series of 10 SA rockets. The main difficulty being that it's really tall. Since the traditional Google Doodle is horizontal, and indeed, the alloted space does not accomodate vertical structures well. It's hard to figure out how to use such a tall accessory. If I place it sideways in a huge perspective shot I unabashadly rip off the model kit design.

However without a similar composition there's no way the ship is going to fit. The other option is to focus on the launch itself; smoke and fire, sheer power filling up the frame as the tail end of the ship flies off the page, the Google logo standing stalwart as smoke billows behind it.

In any case, even with other derivative artwork based on the same subject matter applying the subject matter tot the Google logo will require something extra.

The Saturn I S-I stages for the SA-8 and SA-10 mission in final assembly phase in a manufacturing building at the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The SA-8 mission was launched on May 25, 1965 with the first industry-built booster, and deployed the Pegasus II Micrometeoroid Detection satellite. The SA-10 mission was the last Saturn I mission, launched on July 30, 1965, and carried the Pegasus III Meteoroid Detection satellite.
