One Day At A Time is officially over.

I have loved this show with my whole heart from the time I watched the first episode. I knew it was something special. We all did. And that’s not something we will ever forget.

This show gave us representation and laughter and sociopolitical commentary and education… this show, it’s creators, the actors, and every single person who worked to bring it to life gave us so much.

In this show, I saw myself fully reflected in a character for the first time ever. To see a young teenage Latinx lesbian… it was revolutionary. I cried when Elena came out. I sobbed when she wore a suit for her quinces.

When Lydia was in the hospital, and each member of the family spoke with her, I was reminded of my own grandma and her last weeks with us. When Penelope sang Cielito Lindo, I sobbed again, because I was feeling what I felt when my grandma passed away.

There are so many unforgettable moments in this show. They truly did it all. When people question why someone would need representation, I point them to this show. It has trans characters and actors, it has LOADS of actors of color, it addresses trauma, addiction, depression, anxiety, and the effects of the military industrial complex on individuals, and on top of all of that — it’s funny as hell. There are still moments where I rewatch and end up laughing out loud, no matter how many times I’ve seen the episode.

Energy can neither be created, nor destroyed. So much energy (and love, always love) was put into creating this show. The show might be over, but the energy will never cease to exist. We will always have it, somewhere, in some form.

One Day at a Time Needs Help

Everyone, once again One Day at a Time has been cancelled. We need to show these networks that we want this show to stick around. Time to bring back the #saveodaat and get to work.

I know Covid has really messed up a lot of things. But I am willing to wait to have my shows than have them be cancelled or made shoddily. Please, we can’t let this die. ODaaT has at least one more, maybe two more good seasons left before it should end.

I still don’t get why they cancelled ODAAT. Even with Corona there would have been so many creative ways how to record the show. They could at least try to record one without a live viewers and see how the outcome would have been
