Sometimes people do not differentiate them and it is discouraging. I really love book Damon and I loved him before I found out the show would be a thing. Like others had HP I kind of had the TVD books. They were rather unknown back then and not a 'bestseller'. It was something that back then meant a lot to me and I enjoyed a lot. So differentiating the original version and character from what the show created is of enormous importance for me. I reread your message so many times because it simply made me grin so hard.
