Plate is from a 1980’s Disston that was in rough shape. I cut it down and derusted it. About 18”, 7 tpi, Walnut handle and my homemade nuts.
14", 11 tpi cross cut, handle based on Grammercy carcase saw from Tools For Working Wood, unfinished handle and the nuts are not fitted yet in this picture
16" rip saw with 4" under the back, .020" thick plate, Apple handle, 9 tpi, home made split nuts, handle finished with shellac and wax
Making some progress on these carcase saws. The saw blade is hammered into the brass back using a slightly rounded paddle made from a soft(ish) wood. The idea here is that about 15 or so teeth will be contacting the paddle at all times. If one were to use a flat surfaced paddle for this purpose they would run the risk of hitting the saw blade with a corner, and bending or dulling a tooth.
