I participated in my first rapier tournament today, it was fucking awesome. I got authorized like five minutes before it started so I was already a little tired before the melee. Everyone vs everyone all at once, and if the person who killed you gets out you get to go back in. At the end of ten minutes, no one else can come back in and we find the winners. I did THREE rounds of that, and came in second place in one of them. I absolutely want to go to war one of these days. I was sweaty and yucky and hot the whole day but it was worth it, melee was awesome.

Success! I was at an Event recently and met the goals I set for myself. The mourning tournament was a double elimination Atlantian Speed tournament of ~30 fencers. My goal was to be in control of the fight. Rounds 1 and 2 this went fantastically. I took the initiative and just gained my opponent's blade by extending my arm. There was bladework that followed and I made my opponent reset the fight. I got a solid bind on Round 1 opponent's blade twice and kept my sword moving until I won. Round 2, I passed their sword from my blade to my dagger and completed my attack. I was the last non-grant level or higher fighter on the winner's half. Rounds 3 and 4 were less victorious for me. I was up against more skilled (and experienced) fighters, but I made them work to beat me and even made them back off. So I met Victory Condition 2.

The afternoon was dedicated to melee practice. Spears are fun! This was my first time really using a spear in melee. One of the best spear fighters in my Kingdom complimented me! I took what they taught a month or so ago and used it against them. Find a buddy spear-person. One person knocks an enemy spear to the ground (or skyward), the other strikes. And then with no other enemy spears in the area, you get to have a field day with the enemy swordsmen because they can't reach you easily.

what an awesome weekend of fighting and camping. i don’t have many photos of myself fighting, but enjoy the ones taken by my friends! i experimented further with my antler as a parrying device - it’s growing on me, even though fighting with it as opposed without it makes me more vulnerable.

I understand how one could think that case fighting (fighting with two swords) looks like just flailing, but I'm here to tell you that it's actually flailing with style

Hold onto your butts... Here's my new rapier that Jesse Belsky StageSwords made for me.

The hilt is based off a 1640 German "transitional" rapier antique. Everything else is similar in silhouette but we beefed things up a bit to withstand regular SCA/HEMA use and modded it to fit the overall aesthetic I was aiming for.

The goal of this was to balance "elegance and practicality" and "lightness with hand protection."

I want someone to look at this sword and know it's mine instantly. I'm in love.

the break in the weather was all we needed to get some good fights in at the event the other weekend! no videos this time around, but a friend managed to snag a few photos of my bouts with this fighter. You know. I realized after my first Gen con that I really wasn't a fan of conventions I just liked cosplay and was kind of sad i wouldn't get the opportunity to do anymore if I didn't go to cons. But now I'm attending my first big sca event tomorrow (Festivel of Maidens, if your going ask for Lysander) and I'm very excited, if not exhausted preemptively, to finish my outfit tonight
