So, the Hubby and I saw The Witch a couple of days ago, and the whole time I was paying close attention to the costuming etc, because it takes place about the same time period of when Rousel was a Petite Merde instead of a Grand Trou Du Cul.  Only difference (as far as I know) between “costuming” would be his french outfits would be far more colorful (and a little bit more ornate) than that of the Puritans in America.  

The movie also gave me the idea in that I’m sure at some point (if not many points) in his youth Rousel would sneak off and do stuff he wasn’t supposed to do.  Like go into the forest at night by himself.  I’m sure the older twin lutins, Paille and Charmoise, probably told him some stories of something in the woods at night and basically told him he was a big baby and would never go.  Rousel being Rousel would go to prove he wasn’t a big baby, but little Hortence would probably catch him and try to convince him not to go. Of course he’d go anyway and she’d follow trying to get him to turn around and end up getting caught in his shenanigans (literal story of her life.)  

I’m sure in the end the twins were hiding in the woods the whole time with the intent of scaring the shit out of them.
