Ego Sum Non Infirma: Chapter 6 Part 16
“Basically the legendary Touch of Death. Developed to attack certain nerves and pressure points by sixteenth century Chinese monks. Other than Cassandra Bruce, David, and Lady Shiva were the only ones in the world who knew how to use it. Roman just replaced David on that list.” Jason said. The clamoring round of applause went dead silent the moment people realized Roman continued to punch David's lifeless body in the face turning it into a bloody mess. “I AM NOT WEAK! I AM NOT WEAK! I AM NOT WEAK! I AM NOT WEAK! I AM NOT WEAK!” Roman wailed over and over. Roman's words struck home. All smiles in the stadium faded away. Cassandra squoze past us and ran up to comfort Roman. “Roman stop. Everything is okay. It is over now.” Cassandra cooed. Having a breakthrough Roman wept in Cassandra's arms. Taking away Roman's identity was the worst move on David's part. “We should go Jason.” I said. With Carlo and Anastasia right behind we all joined Cassandra. “Roman?! Are you okay?!” Cassandra asked out of confusion. “What's wrong?” Anastasia asked. “Roman is not acting right. He stopped crying and now not responding to anything.” Cassandra said. Oh no. “Carlo! The pacemaker!” I exclaimed. Carlo leaned down to check Roman's pulse and breathing. “Sorry Sorellina, I need you to step aside. That's not good. They're both faint.” Carlo painfully said. “Dr. Thompkins! Come here quick! Roman is going into cardiac arrest!" Jason shouted. Dr. Thompkins, with the help of others, flew down the stairs as fast as she could. “Oh my God, I am so sorry. All of my medical equipment is back at the Cathedral. I knew I should have brought some of it with me.” Dr. Thompkins cried. Unexpectedly Bruce stepped in and swooped Roman up. “I can drive you there.” Bruce said. “Do you have extra room in the Batmobile?” Cassandra asked. “Only for two more people.” Bruce said. “Cassandra and Jonathan can go. The rest of us will stay close behind.” Jason suggested. “Agreed. We'll see you soon Sorellina.” Carlo said. Before we left the stadium I tried to spot Mordred, but he was nowhere in sight. “If you're looking for Mordred he left the second David died.” Bruce said. “That is what I figured. I do not buy that Mordred cares about the outcome of this duel. Dr. Blood suspects it was somehow a distraction or trap.” I said. “Dr. Blood has spoken to you?” Bruce asked. “Yes, he has.” I said. Our talk ended there. In the back of the Batmobile Roman rested across Cassandra's lap while I performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The flesh Roman kept hidden under his black marble face caught my eye. Far from being meek and pathetic, the second face Cassandra silently stroked was a balanced combination of handsome and gruesome. Pronounced Italian facial features, accompanied by a strong aquiline nose, and burns similar to Garfield or my personal favorite horror movie character Freddy Kruger's. Consequences caused by Roman for wearing his black marble face over all these years no doubt. Roman did not just have the black marble fused on. By the looks of it the black marble was seared into his flesh with fire. Lastly after inspecting all of Roman's features I discovered a deep scar hidden under the burns on the right side of Roman's face, running across his forehead all the way down his cheek. A tragedy such a handsome man mutilated and locked himself away for so long. Glancing out the window on Cassandra's side, in an uncanny way, I found myself reminiscing about all the times I sat in the back of Bruce's Batmobile while being sent back to Arkham.
Ego Sum Non Infirma: Chapter 2 Part 6
“Are you children done bickering yet?” Said a male who entered the room. His bass voice filled the room with vibrations and gained everyone's attention. The man marched over to the stone box while Jeremiah tailed right behind him. The man I for sure have never seen before. He was a huge, tall man, taller than Jason. He had short gray almost white hair, ice blue eyes, slightly heavyset face, and wore a plain brown suit plus a trench coat. The man smirked at Roman and pulled out a smooth, gold plated, human face mask out of his trench coat. “Is this what you were looking for?” The man asked as he held up the mask in a flaunting manner. Roman snarled, "I'm gonna make you pay, you sonuvabitch! No one screws over Black Mask without sufferin' the consequences! You hear me?! I don't give a fuck about you and your Gotham Security Services! The mask belongs to me-" The man waved his hand, and the guard who stood behind Roman shot him through the right shoulder. “Roman!” Cassandra cried out. Cassandra attempted to comfort Roman, but the two other armed men held her back. The man laughed at Roman. “Oh Roman, if I were you, I would not act so tough right now. I know everything about you. Your power over Gotham has weakened over the years. Overshadowed by your rivals and pushed into a corner in the city you once claimed was yours. This young man over here was nearly the final nail in the coffin.” The man mocked and pointed to Jason. “That is why you wanted my mask so badly, correct? Did you hear about the mystic abilities it possesses? Thought that those abilities would make you stronger? Well, guess what. Neither the mask nor Gotham are yours. They are mine.” The man mocked further and rubbed salt in Roman's wounds. No reply came out of Roman. The man was not wrong. Everyone in Gotham knew Black Mask was the city's fallen and disgraced King. Some dismissed Roman as a spoiled rich boy similar to Bruce Wayne. After Jason, at the time only known as Red Hood, came back and defeated Roman's operation Roman became Gotham's laughingstock. “May I offer a suggestion? We should not let any of them leave this room. I advise that you execute them like the others while you have the chance.” Jeremiah said. My eyes widened. “What do you mean the others? Why is all of this happening? What have you done Jeremiah?!” I shouted. “Sorry, Jeremiah, I brought them down here for a reason. You see, they are the guests of honor. Only one person will die here tonight.” The man sneered. A dagger suddenly slipped out of the man's trench coat and he thusted it right into Jeremiah's heart. Everyone, including myself, were dumbfounded. The armed men must have known because none of them even flinched. Instead, they all held us down. The man threw Jeremiah's body in the stone box. A sarcophagus located in Arkham's Caverns? I have read plenty of books on Gotham's history and knew there was the Arkham Cemetery, but there were never historical indications of underground tombs. The man placed the gold plated mask on his face and spoke in what sounded like some form or dialect of Old English. A cacophony of hellish flames burst out of the sarcophagus and engulfed Jeremiah's body. “Jonathan, I don't like the feeling of this!” Jason remarked. “Tell me about it!" I admitted. Levels of uneasiness flowed through me like never before. Something deeply horrible, even for my tastes, was taking place. After the man completed what appeared to be a ritual not a second passed when the earth fell straight down. Down. Down. Down.
Rando Post For My Batman AU Fanfic

Ego Sum Non Infirma: Chapter 6 Part 13
“I am glad to hear Roman, given his experiences, taught you to stay away from drugs. Your intelligence shall never be wasted. However, I am confused. No one in your life taught you what drugs are? For instance Bruce Wayne, also known as Batman, your adopted Father had you crime fighting in Gotham for six years, but never taught you what drugs are? Odd to hear Roman, one of Gotham's most fearsome crime lords, was the one to teach you.” I said. I could not hide the fact I was irked. “No, no please do not blame Bruce! I can explain. The thing is, I have only been understanding the human language for four years now.” Cassandra blurted out. I paused jotting down my notes. “Only four years? Did you suffer from any disorders or impairments as a child?” I asked. “No, David's martial arts training caused my inability to speak. No other person ever spoke to me. As I grew up he used the language centers of my brain to read body language. Because of this, body language became my first language. It took Bruce and other members of the Bat Family to teach me how to properly talk. None of them could teach me how to read like you though. Dr. Thompkins and I are currently working on my writing skills. It feels strange, my ability to read what people are thinking and tell what they are going to do next before they do it is present as we speak.” Cassandra said. What kind of parent deprives their child of speech? “This is shocking to hear. What type of training did David put you through?” I asked. Cassandra stood up and unbuttoned her rose-red dress shirt revealing her small firm breasts in a plain black sports bra. I felt myself lightly blush at the sight. “It would be easier if I showed you.” Cassandra said. The moment Cassandra slipped off her shirt the sight went from pleasant to appalling. Bullet wound scars were scattered across Cassandra's petite pregnant body and lean limbs. With her arms out in a T position Cassandra rotated her body. The vast majority of Cassandra's bullet wounds centered on her back. Cassandra sat back down without putting her shirt back on. “They are all from my childhood.” Cassandra said emotionless as if she tried to bury her feelings. Cassandra's eyes displayed great sorrow. “David shot you?” I asked. Cassandra nodded her head. Most of us Rogues acknowledged we all shared a history of child abuse, among other hardships, but this was beyond the pale. “Cassandra, I would not call your upbringing a childhood. For what reason were such draconian measures used?” I asked. “To become Ra's Al Ghul's top bodyguard and assassin. Ra's Al Ghul had David create the perfect warrior, The One Who Is All. When my Mother, who David saw as the perfect candidate, gave birth to me that was the single purpose of my existence. I stole life without knowing the meaning of life. Ra's Al Ghul threatened to have my Mother killed if she attempted to save me from The League of Assassins.” Cassandra said. Unlike my own supposed Mother, Lady Shiva doubtlessly blamed herself for not taking Cassandra with her. “How did you manage to escape from The League of Assassins?” I further asked, wishing to understand how Bruce Wayne adopted Cassandra. “To put me to the test Ra's Al Ghul sent me to assassinate Batman, not Bruce Wayne. For the first time I failed killing my opponent. I waited for Batman to kill me. Yet he pulled back. Left perplexed, that was the day I felt any real primal emotion. Instead of returning to Ra's Al Ghul and David I ran. I did not know where I wanted to go. All I thought about was running. Bruce rescued me in Gotham once he found out who I was. As time went by Bruce adopted me and I joined The Bat Family. After everything they did for me I failed my family by betraying their trust though.” Cassandra explained. Another runaway Vigilante? Shows they are not as close as people think. “I refuse to believe a loyal person like you would ever betray anyone. If anything, they are the ones who failed you. You are in the same boat as Jason.” I tried to reassure. Cassandra broke down, incapable of bottling up her emotions anymore.
Ego Sum Non Infirma: Chapter 6 Part 12
"How adorable. The lion reversed back to a cub." Jason teased poking Roman in the face.
Two Days From The Duel
I clicked the play button on a never been used tape recorder. “From the patient files of Dr. Jonathan Crane. Cassandra Cain-Wayne, previously known as the second Batgirl. Session one. Hello Cassandra how are you today?” I asked. “Ummm, alright I suppose. What are we doing again?” Cassandra said eyeing at the tape recorder. Cassandra and I sat on my red Italian leather furnishings in the same exact spots Jason and I sat when we had his sessions. Cassandra nervously fidgeted in her seat. With the word out people, including myself, were worried about Cassandra's health and the health of the child as her concern for Roman grew. Cassandra's pregnancy became more visible each day passed. There were no chances of Cassandra defending herself or anyone now. Roles have switched and Roman was now the guardian. Succeeding in persuading me to have this therapy session with Cassandra, because of David, Jason took Jervis away for the day to interact with the others. Cassandra said her and Roman have much in common, but besides declaring her love in front of Jason and I five days ago, they have kept their relationship private to everyone. “We are conducting a therapy session like the ones back in Arkham. Today you are the patient, so this session will be concentrated on you. More specifically your special attachment to Roman Sionis, also known as Black Mask.” I said in a professional cool tone. Cassandra shook her head. “I am sorry Jonathan, oops, I mean Dr. Crane. I already told you I promised not to tell anyone the things Roman and I have shared.” Cassandra said. “As your Doctor, I can reassure you that anything we discuss will stay confidential. If our words do not escape these walls there is no way anyone can find out. Now to begin I would like to hear from you when and how you met Roman.” I said. I had my notebook ready on my lap and pen in my hand. Cassandra appeared to be mulling over her words. “Well, I have trusted you so far as a friend. Okay, where do I start? I met Roman two years ago after I ran away from my Father Bruce Wayne, or Batman, ending my life as Batgirl.” Cassandra said. “How long were you the second Batgirl again? I do not keep track of the years very well.” I said. Cassandra counted on her fingers. “Eighteen, nineteen, twenty, twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three. Six years. Funny we never crossed paths. While the boys stuck to Gotham many of my patrols were here in Chinatown.” Cassandra smiled. “Really? Being the only white male courageous enough to live in Chinatown I do find it humorous none of you found out where I live. Back to you. Where were you living at the time following those events?” I asked. “With nowhere to go my Mother, Sandra, allowed me to live with her in Chinatown. Only for a short period of time though. I moved right away when Roman hired me to be his new assistant and bodyguard. Working for Roman was no accident. Knowing him and Bruce used to be close friends motivated me to go work for him. During my first days living at The Masquerade Roman was very sick. Not physically, more sick in the mind.” Cassandra said. “You must mean Roman's drug addiction. Roman told Jason and me how you assisted him with his cocaine withdrawals. While cocaine withdrawals are not typically life-threatening they are psychologically debilitating. You are a strong young lady for helping him face and overcoming his adversities.” I said. “Oh he did? Thank you. I made it my mission in life to help people in need. Roman could not have done it without Carlo and Anastasia's help too. I have been visiting Dr. Thompkins lately, and she is teaching me more about medicine. She gave me a few of her books for studying. I am happy to say the sixth month of Roman being clean was marked on the calendar three days ago. It took a lot of effort for Roman to achieve recovery with no relapses. I have to admit I did not understand what was happening at the time. Roman taught me what substance abuse is and told me to never use drugs that are harmful to my health.” Cassandra said. It pained me to know what Roman said only five days ago.
Ego Sum Non Infirma: Chapter 6 Part 15
The two were locked in a deep embracing kiss. Cassandra's tongue slipped past Roman's black marble and entered his mouth intertwining with his tongue. David, who waited across the field, scowled. The stadium peered down in awe. “Their relationship is official now.” I remarked. “I wish you would allow us to do the same.” Jason said. “I will think it over.” I smiled. Cassandra released Roman. “For good fortune.” Cassandra giggled while she wiped away the scarlet red from her lips smeared on Roman with her gloves. “Greatly appreciated Squirt.” Roman said as he caressed Cassandra's face. We all left Roman behind on the field with David and sat on the front-row seating. “This is it. Let the games begin.” I anxiously uttered.
The fear removing toxin's goal to keep Roman's spirits up seemed to be working so far. “My oh my, I'm in the wrong. How much did you have to teach Roman Cass?” Jason asked while he intently studied Roman's hand-to-hand combat. “Remarkably not a whole lot. Only little tricks here and there. Roman mainly had to brush up on his martial arts since this is his first time fighting in years.” Cassandra said. “Honestly, I'm kinda glad now I never fought him head-to-head. He would've been one hell of an opponent to beat. I'd like to know who Roman's original trainer was.” Jason commented. It took a lot to impress Jason. Roman demonstrated in front of everyone today he was a highly accomplished hand-to-hand combatant. Watching Roman's self-defense, strikes, kicks, and dodges made me think how much I had to perfect my martial arts. Sure I knew a little Violent Dancing or what the Chinese call Drunken Boxing which made the use of my long limbs unpredictable, but in Gotham my skills were subpar. Without any rules, both sides fought with ferocity not holding back. This duel to the death between Roman and David was ruthless. By now both, wheezing, suffered from fractured bones, bloodied hands, bruises, among further injuries throughout their bodies. “Guys… I don't know if I can watch this.” One Rogue anxiously whined. “Shut up and sit down! Welcome to real battle maggots!” Two-Face exclaimed. Roman's strikes became less and less frequent. Terrible sign. “Jonathan, what's up with him? I thought your fear removing toxin was supposed to take the edge off.” Jason said. “It was. The toxin must be wearing off. Dammit, the duel is taking too long.” I said, biting my bottom lip. Sweat combined with the hellish hot air made my body humid inside my uniform. The disgusting feeling caused me to think of Arlen, Georgia during its hot summer days. “What's the matter Roman? Having second thoughts?” David taunted with a haughty smirk. I winced as David punched Roman hard in the kidneys. Roman buried his face in his raised arms. Smelling blood in the water David attacked Roman with belittling taunts, “Look at yourself Roman. The least you can do is fight like a man because what you're doing is pathetic. Honestly, I'm surprised you mustered up the courage to face me in the first place. Or was that just your overinflated nonexistent pride brainwashing you into thinking you could defeat me? Are you going to answer me or cower like a whimpering dog?”. Roman did not regain his ground. “Come on Roman! You can do this! Stop listening to David! He is no more than a bully! We are here for you!” I encouraged. Nothing. “You know what? I don't think you're going to need that mask anymore.” David sneered. No. David swiped Roman's arms out of the way and with every ounce of strength punched Roman right on top of the head. Within stunned silence a crackling sound could be heard. Roman's black marble shattered into tiny fragments, unearthing his flesh. Next, Roman collapsed onto the grass and let out a bloodcurdling howl of agony. David gloated over Roman's bawling figure. “You're finished.” David smirked. As moments passed Roman's bawling shifted to snarling noises. Before anyone knew it Roman, his chestnut eyes on fire, caught David by surprise and pounced on him with a powerful roar. Roman's attack happened so quickly all I saw at the end was the chest compression he gave to David right above his heart. David's lifeless body plummeted on the ground. “The Falling Leaf… Cassandra, you taught Roman The Falling Leaf?” Jason asked wide-eyed. “I had no other choice.” Cassandra murmured. The stadium cheered. “Roman! He did it! He won!” Rogues and False Facers shouted with glee. Jason and I looked up at Bruce, who in return stared icily at Cassandra as well as Lady Shiva. “Shit. They are not happy.” Jason grumbled. “Why? What is The Falling Leaf?” I asked.
