Lio, My own baby sister? You never told her about us?
I’m glad we were able to be a family, just one more time.
Are there still kings on the surface?
This scene particularly from Kipo S2 strikes a chord with me because there is absolute angst from Lio and Scarlemange both.
1) Scarlemange is traumatized at this point. Like he said, he was literally thrown into a world he knew nothing about as prey after being abused during the last several weeks. After finally finding a shred of hope, he sees a stranger—one he had to wait and endure for so long—wrapped up in the one thing that brought him comfort, his blanket.
2) By the way the scene is drawn, it doesn’t look like he wants anything to do with Kipo. He really just wants the damn blanket back, wants that comfort he needs now more than ever. Would he have hurt Kipo to get it? Yeah, probably. He’s pretty wound up at this point, and how many babies has he been around?
3) Then there’s Lio who’s been on the run for what we can assume is a few weeks. He’s exhausted, probably no sleep on account of having to monitor and soothe a newborn hybrid 24/7. He’s running on adrenaline, on parental instinct, so when his baby born with animal instincts starts crying when Scarlemange gets too close, he’s ready to blow.
And he does.
4) And he regrets it immediately because this is someone he raised and loved. If Song were there, if things had gone according to plan, he wouldn’t have done it. He wants to make things better, he wants Scarlemange to go with him, but he’s gone at that point...
Because the scrap of the thing that comforted him is a rag in his hand.
