DOUBLE POST FOR NO REASON!! Random stop at a place one of my buddies likes to go. Actually, a lot of folk tend to hit up this place. Let's see what the buzz is about at MacDinton's 405 South Howard Avenue Tampa, FL 33606 The place is sprawling, looks like it could fit a very, very large crowd on a party night. That's good, because it looks like there is always a party of some sort going on here. They avidly support soccer, and have drink specials for every soccer game, as well as live music and karaoke nights. They are an Irish bar, but they claim to be a modern Irish bar, so while serving some of the traditional food, they take a low key approach to all your Irish stereotypes. You know, I can respect not being slapped in the face with Ireland every time I walk into an Irish pub. Seems nice and casual. They've got your basic domestic drafts with a few Irish ones thrown in and a decent liquor bar. That Shepherd's Pie... Look at the beauty of it, life a field of potato flowers springing out of the bowl like little buds of Deliciousness. This is possibly one of the best Shepherd's Pies I've ever had. It's the single one that tasted sharply of gravy, and that savory flavor mingled well with the minced meat and the veggies. I am beyond pleasantly surprised. So, decent bar, lots of place for a party, and they serve this well done food until midnight. Price Range: $8-12 Meals MacDinton's: Win. After the delicious Shepherd's Pie, I spied across the street Schakolad Chocolate Factory 408 South Howard Ave, Tampa I wasn't really hungry, but I was drawn into the chocolate factory, hoping maybe for some Willy Wonka hijinks. I browsed around an marveled at the weird things this guy was making out of chocolate. I mean, he's got Noah's Ark, a basketball, some shoes, a freaking gun, and is that a brain!? He made a freaking brain! I decided I would try to buy a White Chocolate S'More, which is the Giant Marshmallow dipped in chocolate with Graham Cracker around it. Unfortunately, the fellow had a $5.00 minimum for Credit Cards. "Okay," I thought, "How hard will that be to hit in a gourmet chocolate shop?" So I got another. And another. And another. AND ANOTHER. Man, this guy really wasn't doing this for the money. Probably just for the chocolate brains... I additionally bought Raspberry, Italian Amaretto, Grand Marnier, and Champagne Ganaches. It is notable that the Italian Amaretto has won numerous awards throughout the state, and this guy says he just keeps winning the contests with it. The other three were very subtle, almost too much so, as if they were mainly chocolate with just a hint of their namesake... Not true of that Amaretto. That thing knocked me on my ass with sweet, sweet Amaretto lovin'. I can see why it wins the awards, it tastes five times more like its namesake than the other three combined. And as for that marshmallow? I had to bite through the rough exterior of graham cracker and chocolate shell, and then you hit the gooey center of marshmallow goodness. I died. My heart died from overeating. My soul died from knowing that one of the best moments of my life is now past. I'm gonna go food coma for a while... Bye guys. Price Range: My plate there was five dollars. I feel like that's crazy cheap. Schakolad Chocolate Factory: Needs more Oompah Loompahs. Other than that? Awesome.
