I love love LOVE this scene.
snufkin? schmendrik? magician.
is Schmendrik's portrayal in The Last Unicorn movie antisemitic? (recently learned his name is a Yiddish word and it got me thinking)
.
Decided to draw Shmendrik the Wizard and the unicorn from, well, the last unicorn. I wanted to draw them a little different from their appearance in the animated movie (which is fantastic btw.) Shmendrik is kinda cartoonish, but you can still see that he is a good guy. The type of wizard you want to be a friend with. I coloured the oulines of the unicorn and also didn´t shade her, to give her kind of an outerworldly appearance. I think that effect works out pretty good. Beauty and grace tbh
She will remember your heart when men are fairy tales in books written by rabbits. Of all unicorns, she is the only one who knows what regret is - and love.
inktober day 2!! Schmendrik the most magnificent of magicians!!
Why yes, irrealis, I am a fan of The Last Unicorn.
I also might be working on a sketch of a pirate cat and a drunk skeleton...but you didn’t hear that from me *wink*
Snow Day
Sarah drifted soundlessly, feet not even touching the floor so that she did not disturb dust and cobwebs. Her fingers itched to grab a broom and a dust pan; to clean the home where a vampire with sad eyes and a psychic with frown wrinkles lived in quiet bliss that seemed marital - only missing the vows to 'seal the deal' as it were. She longed to make it a home, to make it somewhere that they could all live happily.
Well. Where Schmen and Dean could live happily, and she could watch from the sides and bask in their happiness, too.
She had just made it downstairs and towards the kitchen when she heard the shouting. Eyes widening and head tilting, the little ghost wandered over to a nearby window - and what she saw made her gasp.
Schmendrik was outside. He was outside, playing in the snow in naught but his pajamas and housecoat. He was tossing snow in the air, tripping over his feet, and he was laughing.
"DEAN! SARAH! RAE! COME PLAY WITH ME!"
Well of course she didn't hesitate.
Moving through the wall, she rushed over to Schemndrik and was caught up in his arms, laughing as he spun her around high above his head. The back door opened to reveal Dean, wrapped in a winter coat and staring out at the two of them in fond exasperation.
"...Idiot, you're going to catch a cold dressed only in that!"
Schmen put Sarah down to rush to Dean, bending down and pressing a kiss to his lips - not even hesitating for a second to do so in front of their ghostly companion. Dead flushed bright red and sputtered, pushing weakly at Schmen's chest when the vampire wizard hugged him tight; only barely allowing the taller man to drag him outside.
A quick flash of light caught all three's attention, and Sarah turned to see a smaller woman, dressed warmly, standing in the field with curiousity at first - before warm fondness settled over her features. Sarah backed away from Rae quietly, sensing the holiness about her and knowing she was looking at an angel, watching as the woman approached Schmendrik and hopped up, floating a little to kiss his cheek.
"I'm glad to see a smile."
"I'm glad you're all here!" Schmen said, grabbing onto Rae's hand and Dean's. He looked to Sarah, smiling at her bright and beautiful, and the woman from the forties approached him with a smile of her own, standing between Rae and Dean.
"...well, are we going to play or not?" Sarah asked after a moment, looking at the three others. "What should we do?"
"...snow angels," Schmen said, giving a little grin at Rae who only laughed and shook her head, dark hair falling about her face loosely. "C'mon, we can do everything we want! We can do anything."
"Then let's do anything and everything."
