Something that I love about Ted and Robin’s relationship is that they’re total opposites of each other. Robin’s a realist, Ted’s a romantic. Ted believes in “the one.” Robin doesn’t buy into it. It’s this very juxtaposition that makes them work in my book.
Robin’s prospective is not necessarily that “the one,” doesn’t exist. She wants to believe Ted, but believing Ted is also believing that he genuinely loves her. If Robin honestly, truly considers that fact, then everything might change.
Her feelings might be called into question once more, and we all know how Robin feels about her feelings. She hates those bitches with a burning passion!
Ted, on the other hand, lives by his emotions, any emotion. Robin’s used to keeping hers locked up tight, so she pushes back against him, full-stop. She’s scared.
Barney, therefore, seems like the safer option for Robin right now. He tells her exactly what she wants to hear, never challenging her ideals or who she is as a person. Sure, that sounds all well and good, but doesn’t allow Robin much breathing room to grow, does it?
