Review: Schneider Aventinus Eisbock (Bottle)

Every time I drink a wheat beer I think to myself: this flavor is great, I just wish there was a little more of it. Schneider Weisse has heard my cry with it's 12% ABV Aventinus Eisbock. For those of you who have never heard of the style, an Eisbock is a wheat beer condensed to an intense flavor by freezing some of the water, and removing it from the beer. Note that this is possible because water freezes at higher temperatures than alcohol. According to German legend, the creation of the Eisbock was an accident, as beer that had been accidently left outside on a cold winter night froze over, leaving a core of dar brown concentrated deliciousness. 

On to the Schneider, which poured a plum purple-brown and smelled of banana, dark fruit, and alcohol. Still rather cold, the first sip was strong and to the point: rum, raison, plum, cranberry, yeast: sweet yet strong. However as the beer warmed it calmed down a bit unveiling a comforting banana bread backbone- thick syrupy and simply phenomenal. This is the wheat flavor I've been looking for! Tons of banana packed into a buttery biscuit with dark chocolate chips in a glass I tell you! The only complaint I have is that the dark fruit over powers that yeast, bread, banana, and chocolate a bit, making my tongue dig for it more than I want to. Still, this is the best wheat beer I have had to date.
