Dick Merriwell Absent! or, The Spook of the School (1903) | Tip Top Weekly | Nickels and Dimes
An old tradition of almost all schools seems to be the absolute certainty
From page 21:
Some time in the night Preston gave an awful cry of terror, like a choking groan, and Marsh awoke to find his companion entirely covered by the bedclothes. When he had dragged the fellow out, Preston was shaking like a leaf, and finally managed to ask:
“Did you see it?”
“See what?”
“The ghost!”
“Ghost--your grandmother!” snorted Marsh.
“I saw it--I saw it!” palpitated the frightened lad. “It was right here by the bed, all in white, and it was looking at me!”
“Nightmare,” said Marsh.
“No, no! I know I really saw it! Hector, I’m haunted! It was his ghost!”
“Whose ghost?” asked Marsh, who had temporarily forgotten the mysterious disappearance of Merriwell.
“Why, Merriwell.. I recognized him!”
Marsh crept away toward the edge of the bed.
“See here, Preston,” he said, “what have you done? How were you concerned in Merriwell’s disappearance?”
“Oh, don’t! I didn’t do anything! I never touched him!”
“Then go to sleep, and don’t be a fool.”
But there was no more sleep for Preston that night. He lay through the long hours, hearing the frightened beating of his own heart, suffering when the wind rose and wailed outside the window, his body cold, his heart like lead within him.

My school is haunted
I know, it sounds insane but! My school is not only old but located in one of, if not the, most invaded country in Europe. And I think that's saying something.
Anyways, what you also have to know is that my schools building is considered a relic, so we for example can't renovate the doors to classes because they're antique.
This leads to strange things. For example doors opening by themselves (while no windows were open in the classroom). The students joke that its the ghost of our schools creator, who shares an uncanny resamblence to a history teacher that no one is sure as to how old he is.
As I'm staying long after school hours this year, I am thrilled to find out more about our resident, door opening ghost.
Being A Ghost
If I ever come back as a ghost, I wanna come back as how I looked in my final year of high school (now basically), not sure on whether school uniform or regular clothes yet, I’ll probably change them over every now and again. But I wouldn’t have the Yr11 jumper, they suck. I want my blazer from Yr10. It had a rainbow button, all my pens and handy stuff, and my Harry Potter flying key badge and my Grandma’s old ukulele badge. Also, I wanna have my my cool black backpack, with the glow in the dark Gengar face, and Totoro keyring with me.
I’ll be a really cool ghost that the students know about, and pretty much all have seen (the nice ones anyway), but the staff haven’t. So I’ll help the good students like; one get an unfair detention, do something to stop it. Things like that.
Or, if one of my faves is being bulllied, I’ll pull small harmless pranks on the bully like locking them in the bathroom stall, or distracting them in class, ect.
But I’ll never cause any unwanted/needed commotion. Everything will have a helpful outcome, and will be thought through.
And the bit about the student knowing, and not the staff, the staff have heard students talking about me, but they’ve never seen me. They,d pretty much think it’s a small prank the students are pulling on the staff, or an inside joke.
Maybe tho, if I did die before some teachers, and they’re still teaching, I’d go to some of my favourite teachers classes, and sit in their lessons. I might reveal myself to them when ready, but they’d have to promise not to tell anyone else.
Basically, I’d be a hecking cool ghost
So apparently my school has a ghost. His name is Toby. He haunts the career and technology wing.
Something is locked in the school after hours.
My middle school was haunted
raisingatimelordd submitted: Startinmg in 6th grade I heard of the hauntings. My middle school was originally the high school for my city. It’s almost 60 years old. I was always told that there was a boy who died there. Supposedly, he died in Chemistry class, mixing two things he wasn’t supposed to be. It burst the glass of the tube it was in and burned his skin off everywhere it touched. He was said to have died from bleeding, the third year the high school was open. It happened in the Theatre room, which was previously the Lab. One day, with no warning, the lights in the building went off, which triggered an Asthma attack for me. I had to walk through the dark school to the Nurse’s office- which was three doors down from the Theatre room. It was a few hallways over from me… and when I reached the hallway, the lights were flickering so rapidly it was like a strobe light. Buzzing and flickering. The hair on my arms stood up as I walked down the hallway. It was always said that the ghost left bloodstained handprints and footprints randomly… I looked and saw them. I fucking saw them, dark red, crusted handprints on the lockers. I started walking quicker, and something cold washed over me. I looked next to me and there was a boy, with his head down. Taller than me but skinny, with long-ish blonde hair and a dark shirt. I was about to say something, when he looked at me and his face was bloody. I screamed, and ran the rest of the way down the Hall. It scared me shitless. Fairway Middle school in Killeen, Texas. It was closed down a few years ago, turned into an extension of a local college, I think. One of the scariest moments of my entire life- and true, too. I transferred from the school the following year, because every time the lights went off, that same hallway would be flickering, and it was terrifying. Fuck Yeah Nightmares Mod Fey: 8/10 for scares and thank you for sharing!
Okay so fun story. Our girls bathroom faucets will randomly turn on and they have no reason to unless something legit is directly in front of the sensor and it's actually really hard to get them to activate. I have been trying to capture this for a while and the reason is because I can tell something is in there when they suddenly turn on and nobody else is in the bathroom. It's rumored that we have a ghost in our school, it's over 100 years old so I would think there might be a little history and I figured that out before anyone told me because in the auditorium I felt like I was being watched when I was the last person to leave because I am really slow at packing and I kept hearing something shuffling around on the stage so I fucking left because I felt a presence and I Ain't about to be a Horror movie idiot. Today the faucets turned on again, I can't tell if I caught anything on the video because lighting in the bathroom is weird and the focus on my phone suddenly stopped working. Anyways I wanted to share this to see what you guys thought. I wasn't sure if sixpenceee would be interested in this at all but it definitely creeps me out and it only happens in that bathroom from what I know...
