I'm thinking about how the Red Lotus had the goal of freeing Vaatu and enacting a more chaotic goal of overthrowing oppressive governments and institutions, and I'm wondering if the White Lotus (and its flaws) similarly parallels the most extreme of Raava's intentions.
One of Raava's major flaws (that I believe anyways, and I think would have massive potential for exploration) is her belief that she can bring balance to the world alone, without her other half. Even before Wan got involved, she had already been suppressing Vaatu or "keeping him under control" (her words directly) for at least ten thousand years. And even though it's framed as wrong of him to ask, Wan is right when he does - "What gives you the right?"
Because peace and chaos are both essential to the balance of the world. Complete homogeneity is deeply oppressive, and complete chaos can cause massive destruction. Vaatu is essential to the balance of the world as much as Raava is, and while the show leans more into the extreme side of Vaatu's personality, Raava is not perfectly flawless either (ie. her hotheadedness, her disdain towards Wan, her insistence on maintaining control.) And instead of accepting Vaatu's chaos as essential to balance, she uses Wan's aid to imprison him and takes on the mantle of Avatar Spirit alone.*
While I believe that Raava does not consciously want complete homogeneity nor does she want the status quo upheld, I think it is possible for the most starkly extreme parts of her to become externalized into an organization - the White Lotus.
Whether or not it initially started out to be a following of Raava (which could make sense, given that it's clearly an ancient organization and was founded to maintain peace among the Four Nations, and the tile it's named after is over ten thousand years old, with Iroh himself claiming that the spirits invented Pai Sho in Legend of Korra) and lost that part of its roots, it does parallel some of Raava's most extreme tendencies in a fascinating way, especially if Raava became far more brutal than she is. The White Lotus works independently of any Nation's government, instead serving its own internal goals as being completely neutral. But it's not! For most of its history it's worked in secret to maintain its idea of the status quo, from the Platinum Affair (I believe it was involved in) to secretly watching Yangchen's upbringing to isolating Korra for her childhood so they could train her. Similar to the way Raava quietly guards the Avatar, the White Lotus does as well, but sometimes in a far more controlling manner so they can raise them to be what they believe the world needs most.
Much like Raava's suppression of Vaatu that was eventually lost to history, the White Lotus has covertly had its tendrils in many, many political dealings over the Era of the Avatar, and has more than occasionally forced aside those that stood in its way to maintaining its idea of peace. The most direct parallel is when its members imprisoned the members of the Red Lotus (which was more directly affiliated with Vaatu) in deeply inhumane conditions for thirteen years. While they may have had "reasons" for doing so, with the Red Lotus attempting to kidnap Korra, the White Lotus was not opposed to feeding Korra propaganda and isolating her themselves, because that's exactly what they did.**
In conclusion, it's very possible that the White Lotus could have originally been formed as a following of Raava and what they believed to be her will, and often parallels what could be some of her worst tendencies or the most extreme outcomes of her unbalanced influence over the world.
*(note that obviously part of this comes from the show's extremely flattened writing, but for the purposes of speculation, I'm taking Raava's actions within the context of her universe. I also am not absolving Vaatu of responsibility, he did claim to want to destroy Raava for good. However, after being held essentially immobile for ten thousand years and then another ten thousand years, I'm sure that is a contributing factor.)
**(Because Zaheer didn't immediately attempt to kill Korra in the spirit world and seemed genuinely interested in telling her about his ideology, and continued to help Korra in season 4, I do not believe the Red Lotus would have killed four-year-old Korra if they had been successful in their kidnapping attempt. It seems much more as if the White Lotus feared Korra being turned 'against them' by the Red Lotus's ideology. I'm also not stating that Raava isolated or brainwashed any of her avatars, because she didn't, but again, the most extreme length of the principles she represents.)
Some points, because yalls bad takes are becoming exhausting to read
EVERY SINGLE AVATAR did the best they could with the time, resources, and knowledge that they had. Yes, even that one. Wan? Did the best he could with the time, resources, and knowledge that he had. Yangchen? Did the best she could with the time, resources, and knowledge that she had. Kuruk? The same. Kyoshi? The same. Roku? The same. Aang? The same. Korra? THE FUCKING SAME. Pavi and Nisha? THEM TOO.
For the most part, none of the avatars outright hate each other, especially not the ones y'all are claiming would. Wan would not REMOTELY hate Korra for opening the spirit portals. Korra did not hate Wan for closing them. Kyoshi stopped resenting Kuruk when she found out he dedicated his short life to fighting dark spirits after his love's face was stolen by one. Aang did not hate Roku for the mistakes he made. Korra didn't hate Aang for his. Pavi will not hate Korra for "ending" the avatar cycle, at least when she learns how it happened. You have got to stop pitting the avatars against each other, because they are all reincarnations of one person, and they all understand, or learn to understand, each others' struggles.
Sometimes, just sometimes, society is responsible for their own damn problems. Sometimes the Avatar cannot be an omniscient god who solves all of their problems with the snap of a finger. The Avatar is a person, bonded with (a non god, non omniscient spirit) who is TRYING THEIR BEST OUT OF CONVICTION. Sometimes, humanity cannot rely on a singular figure to solve all of their fucking problems.
Spoilers for the reckoning of Roku, the kyoshi novels and the yangchen novels. Note I still need to finish Rokus and kyoshi's books
Korra
• Korra has broken her fingers many, many times
• Her eyes are so bright and eye-catching. People stare at them a lot.
• She could pull so easily. She's great at flirting (usually) But she doesn't because she's loyal to asami
• Sure she was showing growth when she spared kuvira but she does NOT like her. Kuvira pisses her off
• Luckily she's able to make up for her lack of experience in the real world with how social she is but she is clueless about slang and she never understands references
• Jokes fly right over her head
• All of the krew has such a shitty sense of humour they laugh at the dumbest things
• Goes through like 12 hairstyle phases. She loves mixing it up
• Stubborn as hell she stood by the spirit portal decision for he entire life and death
• A really talented bender. In her spare time she attempts to recreate the feats of her past lives
• Bias towards kuruk. She thinks he looked very cool and admired his skills
Aang
• Being vegetarian spared him from the knowledge that he is allergic to shellfish
• Sokka and toph teased him about his first flirting attempts on katara until the day he died
• His death was really unexpected. He was mostly fine leading up to it. Noone could really figure out what killed him at first, it was ultimately just him overworking himself too much
• Not a fan of the spirit world. He avoids it where he can
• Koh the face stealer scared him senseless actually no matter what he says
• He was always really busy with his duties but he did try to spend as much time with his children as he could
• Was super doting on katara while she was pregnant
• Tried a long bearded look for a while. It looked awful and toph clowned on him so hard. So did his kids
• Admired Yangchen and Roku so much. Kyoshi freaked him out as a kid
Roku
• Those first few months of travelling with the air nomads sucked ass. He was constantly covered in mud, his hair was knotted and he STANK oh my god he missed home so bad
• Actually pretty clumsy. Even when he was old he would trip over his own feet all the time. Dislocated his hip once
• A pushover. Sozin would take his snacks and drag him places as small children and he'd just take it
• Sozin had no faith in his avatarhood
• Politics were a nightmare for him in his late teens and twenties because of how awkward he was. He grew into his own though and ended up decently good at negotiating.
• Has freckles, but they only show up at the height of summer
• He doesn't tan he goes red
• Low self esteem, he thinks everything he does is embarrassing
• Collected seashells. Both because he wanted to try and get reacquainted with the ocean and because he thought they were pretty
• Shortly after Yasu died, he was so petrified of water he could barely bathe. He was very traumatised for a long while
• His own safety wasn't much of a priority. Guilt consumed him, so he didn't care what happened to him, as long as the people he was close to were safe
Kyoshi
• Thank god for airbending because she is intensely affected by the cold
• Her Hands are always slightly shaky, so applying her makeup can be so annoying sometimes
• Politics bored her to death
• Queen of “this could've been an email”
Uses her height to her advantage as much as she can. It's just easier and leads to less violence
• Very kind to young children
• She doesn't mean to be harsh or rude, she's just very blunt and has a flat tone
• She got very sick very easily as a kid. If kelsang hadn't found her she probably wouldn't have lived much longer
• Insecure about her appearance. Rangi spent years convincing her she wasn't ugly
• She saw a lot of her younger self in Roku. It made her uncomfortable
Kuruk
• Hopeless romantic. Loves poetry, songwriting and those partner dances. You know damn well he took ummi on as many dates as he possibly could
• Self reliant. Asking for help with anything becomes harder and harder as he grows older (“older”). Even basic stuff like asking someone to help him carry stuff
• His parents were disappointed in him. In their eyes they raised the only avatar in recent history who just didn't do his job
• They both outlived him
• He was fantastic at bending though, he could pull of some tricks that not even his teachers could
• He should've been at the club bro!! House parties would've been his shit!! He would've eaten at karaoke
• As much as he drank he still despised the taste of vodka
• Wanted to be a father. But that didn't work out
• Trust issues
Yangchen
• Her hair started going grey pretty early into her life. She was crazy stressed
• Rip yangchen you would've loved weed
• She did not celebrate the day Chaisee died because that would be disrespectful. So kavik did it for her amen
• Really enjoyed sports. Would've killed it at baseball
• She doesn't like watching the lives of the future avatars until they hit like 25 they stress her out so hard when they're young
• One of the few team avatars to stick together for life and not retire at any point. All of them worked until they were forced to stop
• Infertile
• Tries to visit her sister in the spirit fog sometimes but can't bring herself to go in again. She stops doing this eventually
• Kavik cuts her hair. He's weirdly good at it. In return she brings him trinkets she finds in all the places she visits
• Yingsu and her have spa days together
• Her sanity was hanging on by a thread during Legacy. She was so close to crashing out
• The past lives “possessing” her was an issue her whole life, exacerbated in times of stress. Neither she or her past lives could control it. It just happened when it happened
Wan
• Realistically he knew that he couldn't just fix all the world's problems in his lifetime alone, but god he did not want to die the way he did. He really wanted a peaceful death
• The armour he was wearing when he died was slowly gathered up over the years from battlefields and things he just found on the ground
• His avatar state was slightly different from his incarnations. Since it wasn't something he was born with, it caused some issues. For example, his vision was very poor when he died
• Felt really bad about the impact he had on the other avatars lives.
• Super bored all the time. He's seen everything there is to see at this point
• Wan and raava are super comfortable they know literally everything about each other
• Never had a lover. It just didn't interest him at all. The following avatar just ended up looking similarly to him (Alternatively- he had a bad breakup with a guy and that is why none of the future avatars date men/j)
• Wan and Jaya (his friend that died fighting spirits) built the treehouse they lived in together. Yao (tree-sprit guy) met them a little later. They formed their own little family after being shunned by everyone else
• Yangchens life was his favourite to watch. Aang's life was his least favourite.
• Korra was the only one he went out of his way to speak to. He hasn't been summoned for at least a few thousand years and he just prefers to let them make their own decisions
I know, it sounds insane but! My school is not only old but located in one of, if not the, most invaded country in Europe. And I think that's saying something.
Anyways, what you also have to know is that my schools building is considered a relic, so we for example can't renovate the doors to classes because they're antique.
This leads to strange things. For example doors opening by themselves (while no windows were open in the classroom). The students joke that its the ghost of our schools creator, who shares an uncanny resamblence to a history teacher that no one is sure as to how old he is.
As I'm staying long after school hours this year, I am thrilled to find out more about our resident, door opening ghost.
I found a post recently discussing how old the ninjas are exactly and decided to do my own take on it (and I needed it for the fan fic I'm writing)
I initially wanted to give each season a year, but after thinking it over and realising how old they would be then, I kind of changed my mind.
I'd put the pilot episodes a year before season 1, and then I would put seasons 1&2 in one year because they seem to be happening one after another.
I would place rebooted happening a year after the defeat of Overlord (nr 1) in winter, then the Tournament taking place somewhere in late summer/early autumn, enough time had to pass for the ninjas to give up on Zane and go their separate ways. Then Possession right after it, going late autumn/early winter of that year.
Skybound would be in late spring/early summer of next year, going on the fact that Nadakhan mentioned something about "ghosts are so last year", but I wouldn't bet on it. Then Hands of time within that same year/time caused by that whole time travel thing.
Then the Oni seasons (8-10) spamming about the whole of next year, because I feel like Lloyd and the others have been in hiding for some time already by the time Haunted is happening, but again, I wouldn't bet on it, and it's just a feeling I have.
Then Season 11 (parts 1&2) is happening, again, next year after Ninjago is rebuilt. I would say that the Fire Chapter takes about a month, and then the Ice Chapter doesn't affect the Ninjago Time cause of the time difference, but I feel like it would be around a month also, two max.
I think Prime Empire and Master of the Mountain take place in the same year, together spanning about two months, maybe three if the travel to Shintaro takes a while, but I'm not sure about that. I also think it's not that long after the Oni seasons, like just a few months apart, despite being in different years on the calendar, considering how Lloyd reacts and acts about the "princesses can't be trusted" meaning Harumi must still be rather fresh in his mind for him to act like that.
Then there's Seabound, which I think takes place at the beginning of the next year, and then we have a time skip of about a year, considering how all the ninjas had other lives and jobs set up and the state Jay's in. I think it's a similar situation to what happened after Rebooted.
And at the end, we have Crystalised, happening shortly after Nya is returned to her physical body.
Also, I'm thinking the Merge happens about a year after that, with about another 3-2 years before the events of Dragons Rising Season 1 take place (I'm thinking about the fact that Arin is a full-on teenager as opposed to the child he is when Lloyd talks to him during the Merge)
So, summing up - between the pilot episodes and Crystalised, there would be an 8-year difference, if my math is correct.
Now onto the real reason this discussion even began, the ninjas' ages!
I'd put the OG 4 at about the same age (with Zane being counted as his mental age rather than chronological), and I'd say they are 14-15 during the pilot episodes.
Serpentine & Legacy of the Green Ninja:
- 16-17 for OG 4
- Nya (as she is two years younger than Kai) would be 14-15.
- I put Lloyd before Tomorrow's Tea at 9-10 and after at 13.
Rebooted:
- OG 4: 17-18
- Nya: 15-16
- Lloyd: 14
Tournament of Elements & Possession:
- OG 4: 18-19
- Nya: 16-17
- Lloyd: 15
Skybound/Hands of Time:
- OG 4: 19-20
- Nya: 17-18 (I'm thinking it makes sense because while I have no doubt Nadakhan would have no reservations about Delara's age, I think a truly young teenage girl would not willingly end up in such a situation and as we saw when he summoned her ghost to posses Nya, she seemed quite willing and in love. But keep in mind that I have absolutely no idea how romantic love works, so yeah, and Nya looks too much like her to be too different in age. Also, the way Delara speaks just makes her sound older, or maybe it's just the time she's from?)
- Lloyd: 16
- This would also work as the ninjas were put in prison here. And they would, technically, need to be adults for that. Lloyd being 16 also allows, I think, for the law to treat him as an adult (at least that's how it somewhat works in my country, from what I know, I'm no lawyer)
Oni Seasons:
- OG 4: 20-21
- Nya: 18-19
- Lloyd: 17 (his voice starts to crack and all that.)
The Forbidden Spinjitzu, Prime Empire & Master of The Mountain:
- OG 4: 21-22
- Nya: 19-20
- Lloyd: 18
Dragons Rising Season 1&2(?):
- OG 4: 26-28
- Nya: 24-26
- Lloyd: 23-25
I think this makes the most sense to me, which everyone ending up at the ages they do in DR makes it more believable that they manage to live on and all that. Also, Lloyd being an actual master in it makes more sense if he is in his 20s and has been training for around a decade. So, once again, between the pilot episodes and the DR, there are at least 9 years and 11 at most. If my estimations are correct, that is.

I am desperate. I’m searching for a fic that would fit this pictures:
At lease somewhat, with them being part of the empire. I want a fic where Palpatine dies after order 66 and Anakin convinces Obi, Ahsoka (and optionally Rex) to join him. A fic where it’s Padme too. I just need a fic with this family being the Royal family of the galaxy. I need Emperor Obiwan, or Anakin. Or Empress Ahsoka or Padme.
I need an empire AU with clones, fluff and family feels. I need something like this. Just, please not something really dark cause I know I can’t handle the crying afterwards.
Ever since I learned about him, I have always thought about Feanor as someone mad with grief.
I know some see him as irredeemable monster. And maybe he is. Maybe it’s impossible in Arda Marred, but who can say what’s to happen in Arda Remade?
However, I see one reason why Feanor would, once he truly healed and found himself again, bend the hypothetical knee and be reembodied before the end of the world.
The reason, you ask? His children. His family.
Maybe I’m being delusional (I wouldn’t count it out, it’s 11 PM here and I’m running on five or so hours of sleep), but that’s fandom to you right? We all lie to ourselves. Anyways.
I always envisioned Feanor as a caring if not ideal father. I am sure he made mistakes even before the Silmarils. But, he was good enough for his sons. He was good enough for Nerdanel. And that counts as something.
And so, with such vision in mind, I believe in a scenario where, somehow, somewhen Feanor changes for the better for his children. I do not particularly care right now how (maybe do a repost later about that).
So, I see a reembodied Feanor as one who, absolutely, mastered his pride, I love him but he would only hurt others if he came out without that figured out.
A Feanor who has a grip on his pride, is finally uninterested in the crown because he realised that it’s more trouble than it’s worth.
A Feanor who finally dealt with his grief over his mother. His grief over his father. Finally learned how to healthily deal with his emotions.
And I can see that Feanor living with other reembodied elves, regardless of who they supported.
Now, keep in mind that I spend hours reading fic’s in such a topic, so if something below sounds familiar, you can tag the fic or smth.
I imagine Feanor coming back, having realised that his hatred of Fingolfin was because of his insecurity about his fathers love. I can imagine they mending their relationship (and maybe it will never be as strong as it should have been, or maybe it will be stronger because of what they went through along the way, and it will be hard work, but I can see them making up)
I envision Feanor coming back to Nerdanel and being the ner she married but more mature. I see the screaming match and the tears, maybe some smashed statues or plates. But I also imagine them making up, I imagine Feanor bringing Nerdanel flowers or some trinkets, then spending together their inspiration blocks.
I can see Feanor meeting his sons again. I don’t know if it’s in Mandos or maybe it’s after they all reembodied. I think they would have the hardest time forgiving him, because he is the reason the Oath almost destroyed them. He caused much of their pain but also much of their joy. They struggle to see their beloved dad within the Mad King that lead them at the end.
I once heard someone say, the good you did doesn’t erase the evil you have brought. But neither does the evil erase the good you left behind. And I think that’s what describes Feanor’s situation best. His son’s too, but that a different bag of snakes that it’s too late for. (I am falling asleep as I write this. I almost nodded off like three times already)
i'm a writer irl (can't say who because my agent would rightfully put me into a blender and press the button if i go and out myself as "balrogballs") and honestly the funniest and most humiliating incident of my life was the time my finished manuscript triggered a plagiarism flag with the publisher for two lines of prose in my literary fiction novel...
.... which was word for word similar to a paragraph in a certain explicit work on FFN starring elrond and his batsman from the hobbit films, aka that one elf that looked like he ate panic attacks for breakfast (i forget his name but it's Figwit II) where the lord of imladris bends said twink over his writing desk and gives him the battering ram treatment.
