The effect of diluted (1M) alkanoic acid on human skin
First 24 hours
irritation (prior to the removal of acid)
burning sensation (prior to the removal of acid)
tightening skin
restricted movement (the larger the affected area the more restricted)
After
peeling skin
then it’s fine
note: alkanoic acid are corrosive and the shorter the carbon chain, the more acidic they are. take appropriate safety measures when dealing with them (i.e. don't take off your gloves because they make your experiments harder)
Treatment
Place hand under running water for 5-10 mins to get rid of as much acid as possible
Use soap only afterwards because alkanoic acid with longer carbon chains are insoluble in water and might not be washed away and it's a bad idea to add alkali to acid when it's on your hand unless you wanna burn the skin right off and add some possible toxic salt to the wound. Yeah not cool. At all
Moisturize the peeling skin. According to the internet, that speeds up the peeling and the healing which weirdly rhymes. Apply aloe vera or something like that. I personally prefer water-based moisturizer. Less... oily
