Growing elements in a lab?
you can mine all you want in minecraft and not have to face the death of human extinction because it’s a game but this... is not.
mining in the real world in excess is bad and we face a lot of dangers because of it. i mean, do you really want dying biodiversity, deforestation, and really unsexy fields like this
everywhere? no you don’t.
unfortunately because of these fun modern times, and the widespread prevalence of T E C H there’s a lot of mining goings on.
did you know that the chip in your computer has about 60 different elements in it?
so can we grow elements in a lab?
currently we are developing lab-grown meat to solve the logical cons and moral wrongs of meat factories
are there more resources that we can procure in labs and if so, is it better than going the natural route? if yes, why not grow minerals? why not grow elements?
think of the possibilities! if we could grow elements in a lab, we could limit the need for mining to a healthy minimum
scientists have made elements before!
gold is Au on the periodic table.
synthetic gold was created in a lab by particle physicists with the aid of supercolliders mimicking the conditions of dying stars fusing together! but the process of doing so meant that only a single atom of gold was made at a time. It was not productive or cost effective to make the gold. this is one example of how we can make elements, but we can’t do it substantially yet.
but with the advancement of science im sure we’ll think of something...

Watching Fabric of the Cosmos is making me feel simultaneously like a super genius and also like a total idiot because wtf is happening
Low key wondering, do I know anyone on here in/around the San Diego, California area? I’ll be there for an ACS meeting this coming Saturday-Monday (March 12-14th). o3o -creepily pats at anyone I will be closer to- u3u
i woke up from a 16 hour sleep this morning (actually 25 mins from noon but that's beside the point) and wow I feel like I can conquer the world. like, I actually felt like doing homework for once. how is that possible. science side of tumblr please explain
Important things to know when making new friends:
Do you like animals?
Do you have any pets?
Do you read?
Do you like science-y stuff?
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE TYPE OF CAKE?
All of the above are things I find interesting about people. I have had much discussion on these topics today.
