Can I request number 4 with Logan for the prompt thing?
4. “You make me feel like I’m not good enough.”
Damn, hitting me with the angst. Aight, I gotchu. Still gonna turn it fluffy though.
Seeing your boyfriend, Logan aka the Wolverine, interact with Jean Grey, is always something that breaks your heart. You know he doesn’t do it on purpose, and you two have a surprisingly healthy, honest relationship.
The hurt is all on you and your insecurities. You’ve been working on it for weeks now, trying to talk yourself out of the feelings of insufficiency, telling yourself you’re being silly for not feeling like you’re enough for him, because he does love you, and sure, he had a past with Jean, but he’s over her now.
But whenever they interact, the ease of their communication and jokes and everything about it, hurts to see because it’s so different than the way you two are. You two might have been together for two years now, but there were still things he wouldn’t let you in on sometimes, and it only increased your insecurities on your bad days.
You’re so lost in your thoughts that you don’t hear Xavier wheel beside where you are on the couch until he puts a hand on your shoulder, and when you look up at him, he gives you a small smile, then nods towards where Jean and Logan are.
“You need to tell him, (Y/N). I know emotional confrontation is not the strength of either of you, but it’s needed or else you’ll both become quite miserable.” He advises, and you sigh, nodding.
“I know I need to Charles but I just... I already feel like I’m losing him, and he’s told me that he and Jean don’t have anything more than friendship happening but... It’s hard, knowing their past. I’m afraid if I say anything, I’ll be the bad guy making something big out of nothing.” You say quietly, looking down at the floor.
Charles sighs and pats your arm. “I know how you feel, (Y/N), but please, tell him. Come to me if you need anything.” He reiterates before he wheels away, and you’re left with your thoughts for the day.
After dinner, you retire to the room you share with Logan and pull out a book, sitting on the loveseat and trying to take your mind off your day. Logan walks in shortly after and sits beside you, reaching out to pull you into his lap. You let him, but continue reading, though it’s hard to focus when he starts placing kisses along your shoulder and neck. You pull away a little bit, and Logan frowns. You can feel his eyes scrutinizing you, trying to deduce what’s wrong, and you keep your face stony and blank, unreadable.
“(Y/N), sweetheart, I’m no mind-reader like the Professor. You gotta tell me when there’s something wrong.” He nudges, not outright asking but not ignoring it either.
Your heart speeds up, nerves racing at the upcoming confrontation you know will happen, and set your book aside, climbing off his lap and pacing the room instead.
“Lo, it’s just, you... You make me feel like I’m not good enough. And I know you don’t do it on purpose but it still hurts and I still feel it and I’m sorry.” You practically push the words out of your mouth, your entire body going still as you wait for Logan to make his move, eyeing him warily.
He doesn’t react like you expect; instead of getting angry and defensive, you visibly see his body deflate, disappointment radiating from him. “God (Y/N), I’m the one that should be sorry. You’re more than enough for me, and honestly a lot of the time I feel like I don’t deserve you. You’re so soft and good and you’re so good with the kids, while I’m none of that. I’m rough and mean and Marie was seriously the only kid I’ve ever really been good with, and she’s not even a kid.” He actually has tears in his eyes, and you move to him, kneeling in front of him.
“Logan, no, you’re so good with all of them. Sure, you scare the hell out of most of them but they all look up to you. And yes, you can be grumpy, but babe, you’re not mean. And oh yeah, you might be a little rough, but only where it’s fun.” You waggle your eyebrows with your last statement and he chuckles, smiling a little.
He lifts his hands and cups your face, gently tugging you into his lap again and he rests his forehead against yours, chuckling when you press a kiss to his nose.
“We’re both a bit of a mess, but that’s why we work so well together. I love you so much, and I’m sorry I haven’t proven it to you lately, but I’m going to try and prove it to you every day. You... You deserve so much more than I’ve given you, princess, and I can only hope I can show you.” Logan professes, and you hold your breath for just a second before you lean in and kiss him passionately.
“I love you too. We’ll figure this out together, darling. Never fear.” You press kisses across his face, which soon results in him growling and picking you up, then carrying you to bed, where you both spend the night showing each other how much love is between you two and how much you really do like it when he’s rough.
