Have you ever think about the reason Scott looked very happy because this might be the first time he has someone (kip) waiting for him at home. And he felt not so alone anymore š

Long, analysis-y post that is all over the place+episode three/first book spoilers warning!
I was talking to the loml about episode 3 now that Iām almost finished with the first book, and Iāve been trying very hard to articulate what I felt was missing from the emotional core of the Scott and Kip episode that was present in the book.
ok for starters. clefs entire self image relies on being A Man. so we're off to a great start here re: her entire transgenderism thing. A LOTTTTTT of this is due to sexual trauma and general issues about being degendered its awesome it is So fucking awesome. she is Extremely intersex & transfem coded in this way and thats awesome to me.
cass & it are both extremely similar to eachother in the sense that its entire presentation hinges on being seen As A Man, with almost every sentence out of her mouth being something to spark debate. she touts itself as a Cool Badass Strong Guy while being extremely insecure and depressed about it. SO MUCH of this ranges from the fact shes 1) ex-military, and 2) a victim of f on m domestic abuse.
she comes from a background of over masculinization and christian religious trauma. she was told to believe men can only Do harm and cannot be victims of harm, and so thereby believes she is 1) less of a man and 2) doesnt Deserve to be viewed as a human (<- the degendering goes hand in hand with the dehumanization). she Constantly refuses to see herself as a person if she isnt viewed as a man. so much of her issues resolve around the fact she views being seen as less of a man A Terrible Thing, while also viewing manhood as An Even Worse Thing. she believes manhood is something to be earned and to be Respected, which is to say feared. her ideas of masculinity and by extension manhood are heavily warped by decades of military experience and sexual trauma.
she is severely self conscious about the idea of not being viewed as "masculine enough", so much so that she has become an exact replica of everything she deems to be "manly". shes a snarky, violent, unpredictable man. she views herself as incapable of being anything else not only because of who she is but because of who everyone views her as. she has trapped herself in a hell of her own making and has no plans to escape it, solely because she views it as necessary for her survival. she cannot conceptualize a version of herself that is not masculine, because francis was degendered too much that she views it as an inherently bad and wrong take on who she is as a person. she cannot separate francis' trauma, and by extension her trauma, with her own gender identity; parts of which is in and of itself caused by the trauma.
ultimately her fascination with masculinity stems purely from trauma, with all of it descending from either the sexual abuse or the militaristic experience. her air of masculinity is a lie and she continues to perpetuate it as the 'father of lies' because that is all her identity has ever been. she believes that if she is able to lie hard enough, make enough people believe it, then she will finally be registered as a man. in reality, she is viewed as less than, not even given the privilege of manhood, by virtue of how she acts. she has dehumanized herself, put on such a show, that people have viewed her instead as an aggressor rather than a man. she is unable to tell the difference, and thereby believes her plan has worked.
tldr clef is ultimately genuinely unhappy as a man but is unable to process or understand that due to her extensive trauma
I fear I cannot dig myself out of the hole so I simply must dig deeper. āØAO3 here I comeāØ
This has been in my brain ever since I watched the Scip episode and maybe I'm just not understanding something cause I haven't read the book (and I might got some of that undiagnosed tism), so please don't kill me if I missed something.
While I agree with the point that Elena was trying to make trying to protect her friend's heart, the way she went about it upset me a bit. Not only is the relationship young but Scott has been in the closet for years for what are valid reasons to him, you can't just push someone out of the closet like that. Besides Kip had said he was ok where they were so I don't get why she had to do that.
"I watched Wild Robot (tm) today and it was so amazing, it was beautiful, I am so impressed and I had a vision... am I the only one who likes to find some pararrels with characters and my ocs"
