He detected the strong musk of whiskey, so heavy that it seemed to settle permanently in the walls of the apartment like mold. It was distracting, along the odd feel to the first room and what he assumed to be ‘front desk’. Matt walked in upon the invitation, his cane now firmly held in both hands and in front of him as he spoke.
“I understand, Miss Jones and I apologize for showing up after hours. I know how difficult landlords are and their policies,” Matt replied politely but a smile remains absence from his face.
“I will make it quick in informing you that a recent client of yours as sought out Nelson and Murdock early today in the goal of reaching a settlement with your agency. This wouldn’t be the first time someone has made claims against you, Miss Jones, but it is the first client we have taken for reasonable cause about malpractice on your part.” He could pull up a fair set of names but he knew of the client confidentiality would prohibit any mention. He wouldn’t know how many came to Miss Jones for her practice in the first place. Her name would only pop up every so often in their office so Matt had a good idea of what she did.
