"Young people are looking for a political home right now. This has become a defining moral question of our time"
-Minnesota Senator Scott Dibble on the Democratic party officially supporting gay marriage
In June, the Good Samaritan United Methodist Church welcomed Catholics from across the state for a kickoff event for Catholics that oppose the marriage amendment. Several hundred people gathered to understand what they could do to help defeat this mean-spirited amendment.
Scott Dibble, DFL-Minneapolis, had this to say at the event:
A lot of statements have come from the archdiocese to the contrary, but we were raised as Catholics with a sense of social conscience to stand up for those who are struggling—for full rights, for equality, for recognition.
It's great to see people of all religious backgrounds coming together in opposition to this amendment. Hopefully, these folks will be able to have many conversations leading up to this fall and help others understand that love is love.
Note: Minnesotans United for All Families has added a "Catholics Vote No" bumper sticker to their online store.

On November 6, 2012, Minnesotans have the chance to be the first state to defeat a constitutional amendment with language that denies rights to LGBT citizens.
VOTE NO!! on November 6, and most importantly, talk to people in you life who may be on the fence about their vote.
I know that I posted about this the other day, and I know it's a long shot, but I wanted to post some additional press coverage on the bill that has been introduced to block the marriage amendment from making it to the ballot this November in Minnesota.
It’s appalling that we would try to do this kind of constitutional amendment... It’s not in step with most of Minnesota. It’s a lot of time, energy and money that’s being wasted on something that will hopefully fail anyway.
Karen Clark, DFL-Minneapolis

ET Gay Minn. Sen. Scott Dibble Slams Marriage Ban
By Advocate.com Editors
Openly gay Minnesota Sen. Scott Dibble gave an emotional speech Wednesday on the struggles he and his husband have faced over the last several years before the state senate approved a ballot initiative to put a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage before voters next year.
Dibble speaks about his husband’s struggles with his health and as a small business owner in a tough economic climate. “He pays for his own health insurance out on the open market — over $500 a month he pays… he’s really, really struggling, and we work really, really hard to support each other each and every day.”
Dibble asks the senators what family this bill his helping. “Not a single family in Minnesota,” he says.
