Scott is so wholesome.. I can't help but imagine Empy on his down time being the same way 🤣
An hour long interview, and he derails into his love for LOTR and how he loves video games and 80s sci-fi, but Scott Joseph is the voice of the Emperor and Balduran AND Marcus (the winged Flaming Fist defector who tries to kidnap Isobel). He talks about how the Emperor is NOT the evil that everybody thinks, how most people (because of the intentional narrative) see a mind flayer and think "bad!". He expresses how the Emperor's morality depends on the Player's choices and actions, but that the player's choices do not necessarily reflect how the Emperor really is (the vulnerable scenes we catch them in, like when they learn of Stelmane's death, and in Guardian form overwhelmed and needing the hug). He also refers to the Emperor as They/Them, which I find interesting because the fandom likes to say mind flayers are It/its because they're "soulless" + there's no in-game books on whether mind flayers have genitals. But They/Them goes along much better with the Emperor being very trans-coded. As a he/them, I personally very much appreciate that representation coming from the actor who gave the character life. Again, it is long, but Scott Joseph is very fun to listen to, very strong ADHD energy with the accompanying attention span we all have. It is an entertaining and enlightening interview.
IT IS WORTH THE LISTEN --
even if you just play it while you're getting ready for work or tidying up the castle or building stuff on Minecraft (like I did when I did when I listened).
