God, there were such good Van Rhijn family moments this episode. I cannot get over their dinner together for so many reasons--them eating together has been referenced before but we actually get to see it? why is Oscar next to Agnes and not at the head of the table? Jack and Bannister giving each other that little look?--but of course most of all for Oscar and Agnes’s conversation. “Why don’t you admit it?” I’m fascinated by the fact that Oscar tries to goad her into saying what she feels, but I also love most of all that it works? I don’t think anyone else could possibly get away with that--I think Ada is the only other person who might even try, and I think Agnes would shut her down in a flash. The whole exchange is just the epitome of what I’ve been saying about Agnes and Oscar from the beginning--Oscar is Agnes’s weak spot, and he gets away with doing things that no one else would even dream of trying.

And then at the ball! Their exchange was so cute, and the way Oscar looks at Ada and Marion after Agnes says he’s the last man on earth she’d allow to criticize her! Love this weird little family. And, of course, that it’s funny most of all because it’s so clearly not true--see above re: Oscar being Agnes’s kryptonite.

Just the Tip
