take a scrolling break with me, my chai and lavender woodwick candle 🫧🪷
Scrolling break! Pickles invites you to flop.
Hey, there, Weary Scroller,
This is your scrolling rest stop. Take a minute to sit with me, won't you?
I know, I know it's been tough, lovely. I know lately most days feel like being the musicians on the Titanic.
Some days we have the energy to press on and fight, and some days we only have the energy to survive. Those are the worst days - the ones your thoughts are too loud and darkness seeps in.
Your job, on those days, is to just survive until the next one. No, I'm serious. Go grab a drink of water. Make sure to put something on your stomach. If you're up to it, shower, and if you're not - wash your face.
Because, listen to me, you are going to survive this. You have to survive this. You have to outlive them. Do you hear me? You will outlive them.
And you will do so beautifully in your truth, because that's the biggest fuck you of them all - showing them that you can press on and thrive despite them.
Easier said than done, I know. I do.
But that's why I'm here to remind you.
Live in technicolor, you beautiful, wild thing. Grow in strength.
Press on, my love. Press on.
Are you stuck scrolling right now?
Want to put your phone down (or close Tumblr/turn off your computer) and do something else, but you can't seem to stop scrolling? I've been there before. Like, an hour ago, even. It sucks, I know. I know this feels bad, but remember that doesn't mean you are bad! You're just having a hard time. That happens. I'm going to share some things that help me, and we'll see if they work for you.
Focus on your breathing. Close your eyes if you can. Pay attention to the way the air fills your lungs, the way it feels cooler going in your nose and warmee going out. You might try laying down and placing your phone on your stomach and watching it rise and fall with every breath.
Look away from the screen for a moment. Choose a color and find 10 things of that color with your eyes. Or your hands, if you're feeling ambitious? Up to you, I guess.
Do some stretchies! Sitting or standing, whatever you can manage. Especially work on any areas that feel tight, and remember to stop if you feel pain or discomfort. Feel your body lengthening and contracting as you take it through your range of motion.
Throw in some massage in areas of particular tensions. Feel the muscles loosening and blood flowing where it may have been restricted before. My trapezii (between my shoulders and neck) are constantly super tight, and when I massage them I can feel them soften, and there's a rush of coldness as the blood flows better through them.
Take a moment to focus on your ears. What can you hear? If you're in a crowded environment, can you hear conversations? Can you pick out any laughter? If you're in a quiet environment, what noises emerge from the stillness? Water flowing through pipes, cars driving past outside, birdsong?
Go grab a snack. Really focus on your body as you get or make this snack. The motions of your arms and hands opening drawers, grabbing items, pulling a package open or spreading things with a knife. Then, focus on the feel and taste of it in your mouth as you eat.
You can do the above with a drink! Remember to hydrate!
If all else fails, set a timer for 5 or 10 minutes and try again. This is hard! But you can do hard things! I believe in you!
