CHAPTER 1: GOLDIE’S PREGNANT.
Scrooge came into his office. Goldie was sitting on the desk chair. He was happy to see her but also wondering why she was here. “Goldie, shouldn’t you be out treasure hunting or trying to run off with my wallet?” he said. “Nope. I’ve got a surprise for you,” she said. “What have you got to tell me, woman?” he said. “I’m pregnant and it’s your baby,” she said. “What?” Scrooge said. “I know that you heard me,” she said. “May I?” he said. She took his hand and put it on her small eight month pregnant baby bump.
That night, Scrooge and Goldie told everyone that she was pregnant. She was due in a month. She looked exhausted. After dinner, Goldie had to lie down. She laid down in Scrooge’s room. Scrooge followed her into the room. Something was truly wrong with his ex-everything. Everything seemed to be fine with her.
“Scrooge, I came to tell you that I’m due at the hospital in the morning. I have to be in the hospital to give birth. I have high blood pressure and I’m at risk for preeclampsia,” she said. She was clearly upset and she wanted him to be there. “I’ll be there for you,” he said. “That’s good because you have no choice at this point,” she said. She put her hand on her stomach as she felt the baby move. She was nervous about becoming a mother. He held her hand and led her to bed. He knew that right now she needed to rest and put her feet up. She pulled her feet up onto the bed and he put pillows around her to make sure that everything was fine and make sure that she was comfortable. She laid on her side. She had a pillow cushioning her side. Webby came into the room and started asking questions. Scrooge told her to calm down.
CHAPTER 2: LABOR AND DELIVERY.
Goldie was laying on a hospital bed the following morning. The kids were able to see her. They were excited to have a new baby in the family. Webby was the most excited. Huey was wondering if it was safe for Goldie to be giving birth now. He didn’t understand why she had to give birth a month early. Goldie wasn’t happy about it.
“Wait until this baby is born, I’m going to get you for this,” Goldie said to Scrooge. She was squeezing Scrooge’s hand while she was having a contraction. She had been induced that morning and she was already getting close. It was only the afternoon. She was about to become a mother. She needed to have the baby. She was exhausted.
She couldn’t get the baby out by pushing. She needed an emergency c-section. She was in a lot of pain. She wanted the pain to be over. She was scared that something was wrong with the baby or herself. She wanted everything to be okay. She just wanted the baby out. She had a beautiful baby girl. She got to hold the baby an hour after she was put back into her room. She had done skin-to-skin contact when she got to hold the baby. She was a mom. She couldn’t believe it. It was amazing.
It was late when she got to hold the baby. She needed to get some rest before the kids saw her. She was exhausted from the last eight months. She was happy to not have the baby taking up all of her resources within her. She was going to have to breastfeed the baby. Goldie never thought of a name. She was so worried about how to tell Scrooge that she never thought of a name. She needed a name for the baby. The baby couldn’t go without a name. She was a baby that couldn’t go without a name.
“What should we name her?” Goldie said. “You’re telling me that you never thought of a name for her?” Scrooge said. “I was so worried about how to tell you about the baby for the last eight months that I never got to think of a name,” she said. He thought of a name. “How about Freya?” he said. “It’s perfect,” she said. She started to tear up at the sight of the baby. She got everything that she was supposed to need.
Goldie was soon home in the mansion with the baby. Mrs. Beakley had dug out a crib from the back of the garage and set it up in Scrooge’s room. Goldie was lucky that the kids weren’t home. She set herself up on Scrooge’s bed. She was holding Freya once she was settled. She had to not do so much until her stomach was healed.
“There you go, Goldie,” Mrs. Beakley said, gently placing the baby into Goldie’s awaiting arms. “Thank you, Beakley,” Goldie said. “You’re welcome,” Mrs. Beakley said. “Do you need anything, Miss. O’Gilt?” Duckworth, the ghost butler, asked. “A drink of water, perhaps?” Goldie said. The ghost butler nodded before disappearing through the closed door. It left Goldie alone with the retired SHUSH agent. They were quiet for a minute. The silence between them was comfortable. Goldie didn’t pay attention to the SHUSH agent turned honorary grandmother/housekeeper. The baby didn’t make a noise until she did. It broke the silence in the room. Both adult women looked at her.
Webby came into the room, having come home from school. “Webby, dear, did you wash your hands?” Mrs. Beakley asked. “I already did, granny,” Webby said. “Thank you,” Mrs. Beakley said. “You want to hold your baby sister, Webby?” Goldie asked. Webby held in a squeal of excitement. Mrs. Beakley pulled up a big arm chair in the room. Webby took a seat in the chair. Once Webby was situated on the chair, Mrs. Beakley took Freya from Goldie’s arms and gently placed her into Webby’s arms. “Your dad and I did a pretty good job, huh?” Goldie said. “The best,” Webby said. Freya just started to cry. Mrs. Beakley took Freya and handed her back to Goldie. Goldie breastfed Freya. Everything was calm for about ten minutes. “You should go do your homework,” Goldie said. “But, but,” Webby started to protest. “Goldie is right, you should go do your homework,” Mrs. Beakley said. “Okay,” Webby said in defeat. Webby quietly left the room. She wanted to spend more time with her baby sister. It was understandable.
CHAPTER 4: SIX MONTHS OLD.
The baby was soon six months old. Goldie and Scrooge were exhausted. They needed a break from caring for Freya. Scrooge was almost always working. It left Goldie to care for Freya most of the time and it left her to help Mrs. Beakley help the kids with their homework as well. It was exhausting. She needed to get some sleep.
“Webby, dear, it’s time to get up and get ready for school,” Mrs. Beakley said. “Okay granny,” Webby said, getting up from her bed and sliding down the ladder from the attic part of her room where her bed sat. She got dressed for school. The other kids stumbled into the kitchen shortly after Webby arrived for breakfast. The last ones to breakfast were Scrooge and Goldie. “Sorry we’re late to breakfast. Freya had Goldie and I up all night,” Scrooge said. “You two should get her to sleep and get some sleep yourselves,” Mrs. Beakley said. “We’re trying to do that,” Goldie said as Freya started to cry. Blaire had gotten up from the table and went into the kitchen. That was when Freya started to cry. Blaire stayed in the kitchen for a good few minutes until Freya was calm again. Blaire went through and Freya immediately went to sleep. Scrooge and Goldie were surprised. They looked at Blaire and then at Freya. Blaire didn’t know what to do.
“What?” Blaire said, confused. “You’re brilliant, lass!” Scrooge exclaimed. “She probably got scared into silence by my heart rate or something,” Blaire said. “She’s six months old. How can she get scared?” Goldie said. “I don’t know, I’m only stopping here for one more night until I can get a flight home,” Blaire said. “When are you leaving?” Mrs. Beakley said. “I got a flight from Duckburg Central Airport to London at six a.m.,” Blaire said. “Cool!” Webby said. “I’ll have to pack my stuff for tomorrow’s flight,” Blaire said. Blaire left the room and ran upstairs. The kids all quickly ate their breakfast and went to finish getting ready for school. They were all quiet when leaving the dining room so they wouldn’t disturb the now sleeping baby. Webby hugged Scrooge tightly until he returned the hug. “I love you dad,” Webby said. “I love you too,” Scrooge said.
CHAPTER 5: GETTING SOME SLEEP.
That night, Scrooge finally put Freya down in the crib in his and Goldie’s room. He tried not to wake her. He laid down on the bed. Goldie came out of the bathroom, fresh from a shower. She looked over at the bed. Scrooge put a finger over his beak, telling her to keep quiet. She laid down on the bed next to him. It made them smile.
“She’s finally asleep, huh?” she said. ”Don’t jinx anything,” he said. “I won’t,” she said. He held her in his arms. “I was happy that you were safe,” he said. “I don’t want any harm to come to Freya,” she said. “I don’t either,” he said. “I’m glad that she’s finally asleep,” she said. “Yeah, I am too,” he said. They laid down and went to sleep.
