Sculk
I've been thinking, in the empires server, the lore states that sculk is a coping device, something to make you feel less guilty. That is exactly what Grian was using it for in hermitcraft. To cope with the guilt of not stopping a corrupt system, he went to his sculk rock, and many animations or fanarts have shown him being covered by sculk. Thinking lore-wise, that's not actually too far-fetched.
