I wanted to make a statement regarding the recent discourse within the book community. I haven’t gotten any messages about it, but making sure I use my platform for good is SUPER IMPORTANT to me, as is making sure every person here feels safe and welcome.
I’ve done a lot of art for the Something Dark and Holy Series. We have some pins/prints in the shop. I drew a comic of a scene from the series in our Fox and Wit comic strip collection. I know none of us were aware of what was going on behind the scenes but I want to tell you guys that what was done is unacceptable. I don’t condone bullying of BIPOC creators nor do I condone antisemitism. I’m really upset about this and I hope my art never made anyone upset.
So what will we be doing with our merch? For one, I will be removing the prints from both shops after Saturday, April 10. Pins are a little more difficult. They take a lot of money to make and a lot of people had asked for restocks so I have a nice batch of them left. SO I am following the lead of other bookish shops and we will be using a portion of the money from any SDaH merch to go toward the Asian Mental Health Project. If you are uncomfortable having anything to do with SDaH merch I 100% get it! Show me a receipt that you donated to the Asian Mental Health Project on your own and I will give you a 20% off coupon on your next purchase in the store.
So far we have about $100 raised!
I know you guys hear this a lot from other shops but I am literally a one-woman show here. I’m doing my best. Books is something that brings us all together and no one can take that away from us. The world sucks and my goal as an artist is to make you guys smile when you see art of characters you love. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this <3
