This book was annoying. It was choppy, it accomplished nothing, it had discrepancies in the storyline between it and the first book, the foreshadowing was terrible to nonexistent, and it lacked curiosity on the part of the main character. This book also was frustrating in the ways that this book is first person, and the characters would learn something, but it would remain a mystery to the reader. This didn’t feel like the character was in denial or that they misunderstood something, but that it was withheld for shock value later.
Brimstone picks up right where Quicksilver left off, with Saeris a half fae, half vampire being. She’s also now queen of the vampires, though i’m not sure why as she doesn’t do anything with this title for the whole book.
To start out with we get this tense moment when kingfisher finds onyx the fox running for his life from feeders he apparently got lonely at Calish and ran all the way to the vampire kingdom to find Saeris (looks into the camera like on the office)
They then just take the fox back to Calish because they don’t really want to hang out with the vampires Saeris is now responsible for. Saeris then learns from Edina through Everlaynes body that she has to find a book (this is in like the first few chapters) with no other info then it’s in the library among the stars. It takes over 50% of the book for saeris to find this book and it was among the stargazers……
Oh also Kingfisher kills on of the five vampire dudes and causing the coronation to be postponed.
Kingfisher and Carrion frolic off to Saeris’ old realm to get silver and her brother. This goes about as well as anyone could expect, but hey at least they got something done right? Nothing is learned here except maybe that demons have been summoned.
Meanwhile Saeris is doing absolutely nothing to find this ‘book’ she was told to find which is supposed to save them from the rot that is spreading across the kingdom, and isn’t even trying to figure out what to do with the vampires she’s now in charge of.Â
Foley tries to attack her
The stargazer’s that are made of paper cuts her cheek and then dies. Oh well i guess. Oh but the stargazers are the book and the paper cut was trying to unlock the spell that was keeping the pages separate and in stargazer form. So i guess the book was among the Star…gazers….
Oh Brimstone gets rid of rot, but the fire sprites are the only thing that has brimstone. But oh wait there’s another way except Fisher doesn’t want to tell her about it….
And we bounce between locations again because Saeris doesn’t actually care about the vampires.Â
Oh look a ball, oh look Tal gave the vampires the witches blood forcing them to either die or take the cure for vampirism.
And the witch helped and basically betrayed kingfisher and saeris, but did she really?
Well now i guess they don’t have to hang out around the vampires anymore cause there are none. So GTFO i guess
Oh no the rot has reached Calish, oh no no one can find Ren. wherever did he go?
Abandon Calish, oh no Kingfisher didn’t make it. He’s been kidnapped!! Saeris is missing a page in the book. Let’s go on a dream adventure and find it at calish.Â
Now we can save kingfisher who was taken by Belikon.Â
Oh no he’s stuck in a tree, but wait Saeris knows his name now. How? Who the fuck knows
But wait she used his name in front of Belikon that’s a big no no, now belikon can control him. But wait Saeris undid his ties to his name or whatever so he can’t actually control kingfisher.
Now Kingfisher is Khydan. Oh no onyx got hurt, and we escaped.
Onyx can’t die, and he doesn’t cause Saeris can ‘undo’ his death and then heal him with some power that comes from literally nowhere…
Oh no Belikon has found them, now they run into Ajun or whatever and find Ren! Oh by the way Ren is a knight of this thing that Fisher totally knew about(Knights of Orrithian) and got called upon to protect this gate because the people who were protecting it died.
Also this gate isn’t quicksilver and the only person who’s gone through it is kingfisher.
On the other side of the gate that apparently smells hella bad is a different realm that has dragons. Here is when you learn that Kingfisher is the son of the god of chaos? Stryx or something like that(Styx Lord of the Charred Aerie, King of Dragons).
Also, Everlayne has literally done nothing, and we’ve tried to help her zero
Saeris learned that she needs to seal her runes, and has sealed a total of one. She also took half a book to find a book that would give her all of the answers, but don’t read further or you won’t go through the challenges it requires.
Kingfisher’s Khydan’s father is the king of dragons
There’s this other being that gave Saeris the rune of undoing who is sort of helping her sort of not helping her, and she has an idea of what it is, but won’t share with the fucking class. And are there any signs? Not that I picked up on.
The book ends with it being revealed that Styx is Kingfisher’s Khydan’s father. Also, dude turned into a little bitch in this book.Â
Overall, the plot of the madra?, and belikon was left to rot and everyone forgot about the rot for like half the book.
That moment when you finish a book early in the evening but you can’t start a new one because the one you want to read gets to your house tomorrow….
I just finished a book called ‘your knife, my heart’ and omg if you’re a fan of arcane and love jinx? Cameron is the morally grey character for you. Holy smokes I need the next book so baaaaaaaaaaad
This book was an absolute disappointment. I don't even know where to begin. To start off with the beginning didn't really match the end of Soul of Ash and Blood(Don't even get me started of this fan appeasement piece of shit). Then Poppy was in her stasis for almost half the book, oh but wait while she's in stasis she's possessed by Kolis because he *Checks notes* had some of her blood and she had his and that created a sigil on her chest..... The interaction with Attes felt weird like did these people not realize that they created offspring?
Also now Cas and Kieran are fighting over *Checks Notes* Poppy thinking Cas would overreact. Then he proceeds to overreact....
Kieran's basically non existent in this book which annoys me because i love Kieran and also just solidifies that the joining was just fan service, since you know the joining ended up being null and void when it came to Kolis anyway since he can break any bond. Kieran was done dirty this book which is sad and basically the only reason this book progresses is because Kieran basically does Poppy and Cas's job for them, but doesn't get any of the credit.
Cas pissed me off throwing his bitch fit over Poppy asking Kieran to put her in the ground. His whole attitude was extremely toxic throughout the whole book being grumpy, passive aggressive, and then also possessive, which, 'touch her and die' yea sure, but not 'be friends with her and die' I'm surprised Delano was allowed to get close to her.
Delano was also done dirty that was rude and i will not be forgiving about that one.
I guess you could say that in the previous books Cas was 'too perfect' so he had to 'regress' in order to develop as a character. However I just don't think there was a big enough pressure point for him to have flipped like he did and be an absolute asshole the ENTIRE BOOK.
Not to mention all of the new things being introduced in this book??? like this brand new version of a primal just so that poppy, cas, and kieran can be special? but also cas is stronger than poppy and kieran even though poppy is the primal of life and death? like what even is that. Also, Poppy better not come back as some weird ass ascended primal bullshit. i'll be so pissed.
Also Rhahar? Rude. but again Sera and Nyktos 'made a court for him so he wasn't technically a primal, but he also was?' wtf.
It took FOREVER for Sera or Nyktos to make an appearance. I don't know if it was just that as a reader you knew a lot of what was happening already or what, but Poppy, cas, and Kieran seemed extra dumb in this book. Two books ago they made two trips to Dalos to ask/chew out Nyktos and this book no? can't go there? wtf
Also, I guess the reader didn't actually know what needed to be done/what was going on because apparently what we were lead to believe the prophecy meant was completely wrong.
Also the foreshadowing in this book was just not it. Cas getting butthurt about the promise Kieran made to poppy made him seem like he was going down the kolis road especially because he had embers of death i guess. And then Kieran having 'embers of life' giving a parallel to Eythos and Kolis. Also the fact that randomly Cas started calling poppy 'sweetheart' which was what Kolis called Sotoria sometimes was the most random thing i've ever seen. So now Cas is this primal of Death and Destruction because something happened to poppy, even though she's not actually dead, and he just went nuclear on everyone.
So now what? now poppy is with Sera and Nyktos. Cas is evil Cas. the only way to stop him is for poppy to stab him. so are we going to have poppy have to kill her heartmate and then some how recover from that in order to kill Kolis, because YES KOLIS IS STILL FUCKING ALIVE.
Also, WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE NEW YORK SCENE???? My sister says it's to bring in JLA's other series and tbh if that's the case i don't want to read that series I'm so done with megaverses. A SERIES CAN JUST BE IT'S OWN UNIVERSE IT DOESN'T HAVE TO CONNECT TO OTHER ONES
Anyway i finished the book like two days ago and am still raging about it.

I’m so tired of this shit. U KILLED DELANO LIKE THE ONLY GOOD ONE BRO THIS CANT BE. No satisfying smut no love no friendship NO NOTHING one new thing after another introducing more things like ok just throw away the plot ig. Cas was a complete asshole this whole book Kieran deserves better poppy is stupid as shit but I especially hate that she can’t fucking stand up properly to cas like call him the fuck out idc if it hurts his feelings. This shit is more convoluted than a yutubers apology video. U have the gods awake and u have sera BUT U DONT USE THEM. WTF. There is a million plot holes and bitch TWO series dealing with fucking kolis for u to say that it’s an actually Cas bc he can’t keep his fucking emotions under control.GET A FUCKING GRIP. I get being upset about them not tellingu but bitch LET IT GO it’s fucking logical she didn’t ask u by the way u reacted. And poppy she was doing great but bbg i need u to be proactive. Kieran wasn’t there half the time. All that teasing about the joining but u introduced Helena, which btw went no where, AND YALL DIDNT FUCK. Like what is the point of yall being be mad w each other the whole time. Poppy not questioning it too like girl yk something’s wrong DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT GODDAMN. Millie is just a fucking useless character bc wtf does she do and what’s the point of her if it was always about sotoria and Cas. I HATE that Cas is more powerful than poppy. I hate that he ended up as attes’ family and I hate that he’s SO FUCKING STUPID. Like u have her in stasis for like half the fucking book and take forever to connect the sotoria dots (STILL DOESNT KNOW LEOPOLD IS ACTUALLY IRES BC SHES FUCKING STUPID) and it’s like the third book where the ending is one gets injured/captured and the other goes crazy. 1.5/10
AND ANOTHER THING! U have Cas be all gifted and powerful w the eather and being a primal of death and whatever BUT KIERAN IS TOO like have him DO SOMETHING. All fucking book everyone is trying not to anger Cas like bitch it’s not cute and it’s not hot that one cannot even HUG poppy without u being an asshole dipshit. I get the whole u touch her and die trope but like bitch is she allowed even have friends??! Like it don’t seem like it if u keep fucking threatening everyone. Weren’t u the one always saying that she’s strong enough to fend for herself but then treat her like a fucking child. ITS CRAZY. And the saying all that shit to her and Kieran and fucking everyone just bc u couldn’t make sense of a fucking plan FUCK ME MAN. And sure u were right about kolis not being in love, but hey idiot BE FUCKIGN RATIONAL AND DISCUSS IT LIKE ADULTS. This whole book was just exposition. Like tell dont show bc they did JACKSHIT THIS WHOLE TIME. No training w the eather, no interactions with prevalent characters (still haven’t resolved Millie or the twins at all). Having isbeth back is so unsatisfying. Like didn’t we spent whole books trying to kill her and when we did it was so good and now all that was for fucking nothing. Basically this series will never end bc the plot is in mars rn and the characters don’t wanna act like adults. GOT IT.
Xaden Riorson’s actions in Fourth Wing and Iron Flame both make more sense and become infinitely funnier when you remember that the man is 22-23 years old.
This man is AT BEST a first year grad student trying to finish compulsory military service in an active war zone while running the family business (ruling a legit kingdom) and taking on extracurriculars (leading a rebellion) as side hustles. On top of that there’s a literal plague of evil descending, institutional racism is against him, and his Situationship (calling Violet that cuz a lot happens there over two books and I’m trying to cover all the relationship levels) never seems to settle out for more than a month at a time.
Like, of course the decision making is not always on point. The man doesn’t even have a fully developed pre-frontal cortex yet and he hasn’t slept the recommended amount in 6 years.
it only gets worse in onyx storm bcuz tell me why he was in active service as a lieutenant, became the duke of tyrrendor officially, remained part of the assembly, and took that signet sparring professorship at basgiath?? that man was a single venin working 4 jobs at one point and we keep forgetting he's literally 23 .
