What's that thing in Andrina's hair?

Growing up I thought it was a clam shell. Someone online suggested a sea fan. But actually, I think it's part of a huge sea flower! Whether it's an individual petal plucked from a flower, or a chunk someone had to cut out with a sawfish ("it's a living!") I can't say. But it definitely has the ripples, texture and color of an aquatic flower.
