Part two of our series dedicated to Friedrich August Kummer, a renowned cellist whose specific works have nonetheless fallen into oblivion. Here, we offer an exclusive recording, freely available as part of our cello-focused music wiki project, the Cello Archive Project. This is the second movement of Kummer's Duo III, Op. 22, and a major surprise! Tucked between two movements, this nearly six-minute piece is a Swiss Scene with variations! Dated 1835, it is reminiscent of Sebastian Lee's Swiss Scene, performed at the Théâtre Italien in Paris in 1837. This genre reflects the migration of 19th-century Romantic artists to Switzerland in search of inspiration. We have already written about this here: https://sebastianlee.org/.../flower-power-helvete-et.../...
Now, we invite you to listen to this very characteristic Swiss Scene by Kummer, performed by Mathieu Moriconi: https://youtu.be/HVjtFlqP8-8
