I have a work in my WIP folder about Dan Heng making off with Bailu when she hatched and raising her but I keep thinking about the fact that given that she's already a fully trained healer it's entirely possible that she's older than him.

So now I'm thinking about kid sized Bailu making off with an even tinier newly hatched Dan Heng and trying to convince people that she totally counts as an adult so she can escape with him.

It’s a story, more than anything else, less a fairy tale and more the kind that starts religions.

Apparently I like to make it clear who's POV it's in and/or sort of set the stage for the fic, I kind of knew I did this but it's fascinating seeing it laid out like this.

Also I need to finish and publish more of my scum villain fics, I've definitely written more but apparently it's all sitting in my wips folder. Though once you get past the mdzs layer it's alllll hockey rpf fics lol.

(For full disclosure I skipped one mdzs fic because then I could include one of my favorite hockey pieces I've written. Limned in gold is one of those fics that I was delighted to write and reread a lot because I love how it turned out.)

The idea of Shen Jiu raising Luo Binghe in a universe where Shang Qinghua still transmigrated is hilarious to me because he’s over there just absolutely freaking out because, hello, isn’t this just incredibly OOC? His scum villain is raising the protagonist? The protagonist is calling the scum villain baba? How does this make any sense at all?

The only explanation he can think of is that Shen Qingqiu maybe also transmigrated, but his System won’t confirm or deny anything, and Shen Qingqiu just seems to ignore any hints or references he drops into conversation.

(Shen Jiu is under the impression that Shang Qinghua is strange but mostly capable, and everything he does just reinforces the first part of that). 

It’s not like it’s an incredibly pressing concern, most days, and generally he feels that it probably bodes well for virtually everyone’s future health and safety. He would be concerned that Shen Qingqiu would just abuse Binghe anyway, but on getting himself rather more involved in their lives than he expected, it’s clear that a) Binghe is a sticky bun who adores his father, and b) Shen Qingqiu would actually probably commit murder for said bun. 

Then he gets the quest to push Binghe into the Endless Abyss, and uh, he didn’t exactly sign up to be in the villain role...System????

...He is probably at the top of the list of people who might get murdered.

Throwing an idea here because I’ve been reading too much Scum Villain fanfiction lately:

AU where Shen Jiu (so the original Shen Qingqiu) somehow ends up in the right place at the right time so he runs into Su Xiyan who is heavily pregnant and has just escaped Huan Hua palace. He knows her, because he would’ve at least met her in passing, but maybe she saved his life on a night hunt years before so he can’t just leave her like that. 

He can’t save her, because it’s as much as she can do to keep her child alive long enough to bring him into the world and seal his demon heritage. He pays for her burial and takes the child with him, still naming him Binghe after the river he was born by. 

Shen Jiu is not a kind man, and part of him was tempted to leave the child to be raised somewhere else. But he balks at leaving Binghe in the care of strangers, knowing all too well how cruel and careless people can be. He owed it to Su Xiyan to see that her child was safe, at least. 

So he takes Binghe back to Cang Qiong and never outright says that Binghe is his son but lets them assume. Binghe becomes Shen Binghe and his father isn’t a kind man, but he grows up safe, at least. 

Shang Qinghua ends up being the one to push Binghe into the Endless Abyss, and Shen Jiu never forgives him for that.

Continuing from this post about accidental dad!Shen Jiu, because I can’t stop thinking about it:

Shen Jiu doesn’t plan on becoming a father, but after two years of caring for Binghe it’s hard to admit that he isn’t. Binghe calls him baba now, and he won’t admit that a corner of his shriveled-up heart warms to hear it. 

He doesn’t love Binghe, because love is useless. Love won’t stop someone from leaving, won’t keep Binghe fed or keep a roof over his head. Su Xiyan loved Binghe more than life, once, and his Qi-ge loved him once before he left and never returned. Shen Jiu refuses to do the same.

But he can keep him safe, and be proud of how he grows. And he is proud. Binghe outshines all the other disciples, his cultivation advancing in leaps and bounds as soon as he’s old enough to start working on it. He’s amiable and well-liked, and if any resent him for being so clearly favored, they’re smart enough to hide it. 

(The idea that there could be a world where he hates this child is unimaginable. Why would he hate the child who makes his own star shine brighter by existing? Even the people who hate him murmur that there must be something redeemable about him to raise such a son.)

He doesn’t look like Shen Jiu, not really, but he picks up his father’s mannerisms as he grows and it’s enough that no one really questions it.

AU where Lan Wangji did not immediately figure out that Mo Xuanyu was actually Wei Wuxian, but since he helped the juniors out he still gets invited to tag along.

Cue juniors related shenanigans led by both "Mo Xuanyu" and Lan Jingyi, with Lan Sizhui exasperatedly (and fondly) following along because great, there's two of them now.

But then something happens and either Lan Sizhui remembers enough to piece things together or Wei Wuxian ends up telling them who he is. They collectively decide that it's probably better to keep hiding it for now, but regrettably none of the juniors can lie convincingly and just end up acting incredibly suspicious.

Lan Wangji assumes that it has something to do with Mo Xuanyu's history at Koi Tower given that Jin Ling is newly protective of him, and figures that if it's really important the juniors will tell them. Jiang Cheng is incredibly suspicious but willing to wait and see how far Jin Ling will take this.

Wei Wuxian ends up tagging along on the juniors' night hunts instead of traveling with Lan Wangji. He's finally exposed because Lan Sizhui panics in Yi City and calls him "Xian-gege".

I don’t need more ideas to write so I’m throwing it here, but along the lines of Lan Sizhui being a child of the Burial Mounds...

AU where he’s thrown back in time (maybe it’s a talisman gone wrong, maybe something on a night hunt) to when Wei Wuxian was in the Burial Mounds the first time, in those three months where he was unmade and remade. Maybe Lan Sizhui wakes up near there, maybe he goes there because there’s a war going on and he doesn’t know what to do but he knows that Wei Wuxian will be there at some point and it’s always felt like more of a safe place than it should. 

And it’s louder, now, than he was expecting, because this is Luanzang Gang before Wei Wuxian tamed it, and he can feel it calling as he gets closer because no one leaves the Burial Mounds unchanged and he spent the first few years of his life there. It lets him in, and then more importantly it lets him back out, carrying his Xian-gege who is half dead and delirious even as he was close to breaking out on his own. 

He should just leave him, then, but he can’t bear to. 

Wei Wuxian doesn’t know what to think about this Lan who showed up in the Burial Mounds, who he thought at first was Lan Zhan in the haze of the place from his white disciple robes and unmistakable forehead ribbon. Even after they’re out and he changes into robes more suitable for a rogue cultivator and takes off his ribbon, there’s something unmistakably Lan about him. 

It’s an impossibility for him to have been able to walk in and out of the Burial Mounds, but he did it, not like it couldn’t touch him but like it was familiar. He’s not a demonic cultivator, as far as Wei Wuxian can tell, but the dead cling to him and there’s a haze of resentful energy that nonetheless doesn’t seem to dim the Lan brightness of him. 

He doesn’t make sense and Wei Wuxian should be more wary, but there’s something about him that feels familiar and it’s a puzzle he’s not quite ready to put down yet.
