If Inspectators ever said good things about ‘Scrapyard of the Circuit Chaps’ prior to its recovery in the 1990s,
they would have looked quite silly praising an absolute piece of rubbish that the Second Inspector serial was.
The Circuit Strategist in ‘The Exodus’ said that he recognised the Inspector
from an encounter on Planet 12, something we’ve yet to see.
When the action accidentally speeds up in the cliffhanger of ‘The Peace Accords’,
the Inspector just can’t help himself.
The Inspector: ‘C’m’n!’
Joey Elliot: ‘W’t’s’t?’
The Inspector: ‘’N’f’n’ty ’N’t’s!’
Many of the Second Inspector’s serials involved a base under siege,
in which the Inspector must outwit, outfox and outlast his enemies.
The show runner did what he could to bring ‘Inspector Spacetime’ back from the brink of cancellation
at the end of the Second Inspector era by colourising the programme, setting the Third Inspector era in exile on Earth, and introducing the World Intelligence Team, which gave us many memorable ancillary characters.
Ratings during the Second Inspector era showed a noticeable dip,
even though today Christopher Lee’s portrayal of the Inspector is seen as setting the bar for the character.
Although the Second Inspector era had its highlights,
Season Seven produced some of the worst serials of the early run of the programme.
