Sorry Harlem and Upper East Siders! The next phase of the Second Avenue Subway won’t be done until 2029! This is according to a new report on phase II of the project, which would extend from 96th to 125th street and, is only if works starts on time, next year. The line was originally proposed in 1919 and would stretch all the way to Hanover Square in #FiDi if ever completed. Long a pipe dream of false starts, the second avenue subway has finally opened! We're more hopeful than ever we'll see the next three phases within our lifetimes! For the first #MapMonday of the New Year we will look at the next three phases of construction. Phase 2: 125th Street to 105th Street, utilizing an existing subway tunnel section from 110th – 120th Streets. Phase 3: 72nd Street to Houston Street; subway service will continue to be provided by the Q train from 125th Street to West Midtown Manhattan and Brooklyn via the Broadway Line, in addition to a new T train from 125th Street to Houston Street and 2nd Ave. Phase 4: Houston Street to Hanover Square; via a southward extension of the T train to the Hanover Square station in Lower Manhattan.
