What happens in sector 8?
…stuff.
A potion vending machine.
If life healing tonics are being sold along the streets like cans of soda, then that really makes me wonder just how good the potions here must really taste. They're cheaply produced, so I imagine it probably doesn't taste super flavorful but I can't help feeling curious.
Update: I just noticed the smaller text above potion that says "energy drink", now it all makes sense.
Despite the risks and the throbbing pain in her wrist, Thetis itched to explore the outside. She and Dice had holed up in Four’s temple for the evening despite the fact the doors were now wide open for all visitors, but she felt more confident exploring with both her favorite spear in her good hand and the trident strapped to her back with her toga repurposed into a sort of sheath for it. There was no food or water at the Temple, the fountains had spouts without water, and no gifts had come with any, so they’d need to find some eventually, right? She wandered up the dark street, toward the shadowy mountain looming on the horizon, backlit by a bright, silvery moon. The cobblestones felt awkward under her still sandals, and she found herself suddenly jealous of the tributes in the last handful of Arenas-- at least they’d been given real goddamn shoes. Thetis was pulled from her bitterness when she heard footsteps coming up an adjacent alley. Holding her breath, she pressed her back to the stone side of a home, skirting the edge to wait at the end of the street. Her heart pounded, and she readied her spear, poised to strike. When they finally neared, she leaped out, spearpoint brandished in the direction of the (hopefully) unsuspecting tribute’s heart.

Down. That was the only way to go once she’d finally managed to get out of the plane. Down. She didn’t want to be caught up here in the great wide open. She’d told Calix it would probably be a more nature lying arena. She wasn’t comfortable with this and she certainly wasn’t comfortable being on what appeared to be the tippy top of trees. Not with the wind. Not with the view as far as the eye could see. Not with the rest of the tributes. So down she’d gone. On the first thing her eyes had landed on - a bridge. The going down was hard. The bridge wiggled and waved in the wind and with each of her movements, but she made it to another platform and that one wasn’t on the ground either so down she went again this time by ladder.
Her feet finally hit solid ground. Not dilapidated wood. Not the treacherous swinging of a bridge or ladder. But solid, even if squishy, ground. She took a deep breath of relief, looked around, wiped a hand over her brow only for it instantly to be covered in sweat again. This humidity was gross. Deciding not to stay anywhere for too long, at least not yet, Nvidia started off in one direction. Not a few minutes later she heard a noise and froze, eyes trying to catch the movement that must have caused it. She was defenseless. She might have grabbed a backpack that laid at her feet, but she hadn’t gone through it yet and it felt light if not empty. “Hello?” She called. She inched towards a tree that was wider than she was tall, ready to dart behind it if the need arose.
Pebble was standing in a tube and lifted into the arena. The girl was quick to look around and try to locate Rocky. He was standing on his pedestal not too far from the girl but she knew that didn’t matter. He had plans to run into the Cornucopia and Pebble had plans to hide it out until Rocky was able to come find her. Was she weak? Probably but she didn’t want to be the first tribute dead. Once Rocky looked her way, she made a small subtle gesture pointing behind him indicating that that was the arena she would be hiding in.
The gong rang and Pebble immediately jumped off of her pedestal and began running in the direction of her hiding spot. She noticed some of the tributes running towards the items and others running away from it. Being sure to not get close to anyone, she was sure to take the long way around. Finally she reached the area and couldn’t but notice a building that was labeled ‘Restroom’. This would be a great hiding spot. Running into the building, she was quick to look around and make sure no other tribute had found the good hiding spot as well. Finally, the girl could relax. She rested her back against the wall and slid down, keeping her legs arched. She was sure to be ready at any time to jump up and fight if someone walked in.
Pushing the baby hairs out of her face, she nervously watched the entrance hoping Rocky will come in. Hopefully without any injuries as well.
