I created this account on August 2010. This was when the Sedins were beginning to enter their prime and ultimately scored the most points in back-to-back years across the entire league. More importantly, they were about to enter the longest playoff run of their careers alongside my growing love for watching this sport. It was thanks to them that I enjoy hockey as much as I do now.
After the end of a spirited Olympic spectacle in my hometown of Vancouver, I never would’ve thought I would once again be cheering alongside my neighbourhood (at least not so soon). And I have it more or less recorded on this Tumblr. The most active moments I’ve had on this account was during our extraordinary playoff run and I couldn’t believe how many Canucks fans were here too.
Now that the Sedins are retiring, I can’t help but look back and reminisce those times. The core players: Henrik, Daniel, Burrows, Luongo, Kesler, Edler. The complimentary players: Hamhuis, Hansen, Bieksa, Salo, Higgins. After 7 years, all but Edler have moved on to somewhere else.
Overall, Henrik and Daniel Sedin have spent 17 years playing NHL hockey. There wasn’t a time in my fandom where I haven’t heard the name “Sedin” in a Canucks games. It just won’t be the same without them. Then it was at this moment reality started to kick in: the end of an era.
Although hockey is just a game, it’s making me reflect on myself too. I’ve hung on to these memories for so long that I know that I should probably move on or advance in my life as well... C’mon, FUTURE!!!
Life is a game. Hockey is a game. Therefore; hockey is life.
Thank you Henrik and Daniel Sedin!
